I used to really really like the Fright Fest at Six Flags over Texas. I still like it. But, in the past I’d even suggested to @darkmite2 that he come to Arlington, TX instead of Universal, FL for Halloween park time. I couldn’t imagine Universal being any better.
I’d planned on posting this with photos from FrightFest. But, Samsung deliberately bricked my cell phone with the last software update. If I manage to retrieve those, I’ll post.
For the last many years Fright Fest had:
-
Scary decorations out all the time. Like life-sized monster statues, some of them animatronic. It was fun to look at them up close during the day. This went away completely. The decorations were Octoberfest and pumpkins. I don’t have a problem with them leaning into Octoberfest. Germanic people were the largest immigrant population in Texas. But, I really miss the scary decorations.
-
Scare actors. They had scare actors before, and they had scare actors this time. I chatted with an employee and I said I missed the scary decorations. He said that they were replaced by scare actors. But same amount as before.
-
More kid-friendly this year. In the past they said that if your kid was under a certain age they really really recommended they leave the park before a certain time. One year when DD was pretty young we found ourselves at the back of the park at that time. Scare actors would approach to try to really scare DD. So I started to say loudly, “We are leaving” as we were leaving, and they’d back off. They also used to have fog-zones. You really couldn’t see more than a few feet, so that made it easy on the scare actors. This year they sold light-up necklaces which meant “Don’t scare me”

Haunted Houses. These were as good as in the past. The houses are high-quality.
This year they added an area for Trick-or-treating that was cute. They had several teeny-tiny houses smaller than a one-hole outhouse that were very decorated. I got the impression that some of the employees competed on the cutest house.
