Hi there, I used to go to Six Flags every year as a kid but I haven’t been there in over a decade, and I’ve never been to Raging Waves. Any tips? I’d like to take my kids for the first time, ages 7, 10 and 13. Thanks!
I do not go to the water park, but I do go to GA frequently. Are you planning on going on a weekday or weekend? Does your family enjoy roller coasters? Will you be eating in the park?
Thank you so much, yes we will be eating at the park, and some of us do enjoy coasters. My 7 year old daughter and my husband don’t as much, so I’m hoping the group can split up and they can do something fun close by while we’re on a coaster. We also are interested in anything that minimizes wait times. ![]()
1.Food at the park is more expensive for basic food, even more than Disney. A basic meal is around $17-$18. They do offer a meal plan that you can purchase for one day. The lines at the restaurants can be long and take forever, because they do not have many registers and do not have mobile order. One of my favorite restaurants is in the Yukon territory section of the park. It has BBQ sandwiches.

If you go at opening not all of the rides may be open. I went last year on a weekday right at opening and the back section of the park did not open until around 12, even though the park opened at 10. I have not been to park opening on a weekend in a long time, so I do not know if it is the same.

The park does have quite a number of roller coasters. There are a few that are family friendly like the Dark Knight, which is an indoor mouse coaster, and the Whizzer. The lines for the larger coasters can get quite long and they offer that you can buy a Flash pass. The Flash pass is more expensive than Genie+. My favorite coaster there is Raging Bull.
Let me know if you have any other questions that I can help answer.
Thank you so much! What rides do you usually rope drop, and what do you feel are must-dos? (Not necessarily coasters)
That’s the GOAT for sure! I grew up in Gurnee so it’s my “home park” although I’ve only been once since moving back to IL 6ish years ago.
My musts are Raging Bull, Viper, Batman, and for nostalgic reasons Giant Drop (one of the first “themed” queues I remember) Hometown Fun Machine, Triple Play and Fiddlers Fling.
Demon is solid but bangs your head a lot - gives me a headache.
I won’t ride American Eagle because that wooden coaster has been sitting in a wetland for like 40 years and I think it’s about to disintegrate at any moment. Loved it in the late 90s/early 2000s.
What about Goliath and X-flight? Those were favorites of ours there.
I haven’t ridden either of those yet!
Goliath is a fantastic ride. It is a hybrid coaster, a combination of a wooden coaster and steel. It has several inversions and a steep first drop.
X-flight is a wing coaster and the seats are on the side.
I would not recommend Maxx Force. There is usually a long line that moves slowly. They run 2 cars. One loads and the other is running the track. Because of the limited number of cars, the loading takes a long time. The launch is exciting, but it is over really quick. It is much shorter than Tron at WDW.
