We’re planning on rope dropping ROTR at HS this Friday.
My wife and I would like to rider swap for our 3 year old. Can we do that via single rider line? Do all 3 of us get in the growing line first or find a cast member to tap our bands for the swap first?

Your question brings up about a million sub-questions , so I’ll give you some facts to inform your decision:
- Individuals who are not tall enough to ride are NOT permitted in any portion of the queue. It’s one of the ways Disney prevents them from accidentally getting on the ride.
- If you are doing Single Rider Line, you will miss the preshows. Just be aware of that.
- I’m also not 100% sure they are still offering SR line, or that it will be open during your visit. It was sort of experimental and most SR lines are suspended at park open or when they get backed up.
- If you Rope Drop and are not at the back of the pack, I would recommend using the regular standby line. It should move quickly.
- If you are behind the RD crowd, you could try using the SR line.
- Regardless of whether you ride SR or Standby, do NOT bother getting set up with Rider Swap at Rope Drop. It burns valuable time. Instead, do one of the following:
- One of you join the queue and the other one (separately) brings the kid to the entrance to chat with the CM about getting set up with Rider Swap. Explain that the other adult is already in line. They will probably give it to you, but there is a chance they will say you have to wait and all come back together.
- If they say you have to come back together, you could do that after the first adult rides. The RS pass is usually valid some amount of minutes later (not immediate use) because they assume you are going to wait in line. But in the morning often they can be used pretty soon after issuance. If it’s going to be a while, you can just go do something else until your RS pass is ready (MDE should say what time you are eligible to enter the queue).
- The second rider could forego getting a Rider Swap pass, and just wait in the Single Rider line instead. Presumably it won’t be too much different from using a RS pass – maybe a longer wait technically, but saves time by skipping the preshows.
See that was a lot.
Does that answer your question?
Or just buy Lightning Lane Single Passes for the two adults.

I came back here to tell you they are apparently not doing SR anymore, but then I saw your visit is today! I hope things worked out.
Thanks Jeff. RD worked great with Swap. On ride by 8:45!
