My tween daughter was a bit jealous of my previous Rollercoaster Challenge Trip Report - so when we were headed to Disney for Juneteenth weekend and a bday celebration for her that is how she decided she wanted to celebrate. She of course told me this AFTER I had already booked lightning lanes for a standard 4 park challenge - and not booking her onto TRON because she has not historically liked it. . . I was however, able to make some adjustments.
When I did it before it was just me and only 7 coasters as RnR and BTMRR were not open. So the ante was upped!
The challenge - ride all NINE coasters across all FOUR parks & get some kind of photo with each. My son also decided to add a Churro challenge into the mix - eating a Churro at each of the 4 parks.
HS: SDD, RnR
AK: EE
EP: Guardians
MK: SM, BS, BTMRR, TRON, 7DMT
We each bounded as a coaster: DD - Barnstormer (wearing what I wore last time with the add of a custom T-shirt), DS - Muppets Rock n’ Roller Coaster, Me: Guardians, DH: Everest
In addition - but not part of the challenge we wanted to do the following things:
- Frozen Ever After - because we couldn’t get a lightning lane on our Epcot day
- Starlight Parade
- Happily Ever After (we ended up skipping this - more on that later)
- Birthday dinner at Crystal Palace
- And of course meet the Great Goofini again so my daughter could bask in the experience
Strategy
As mentioned above I did not have optimal LLs because of the switcheroo my daughter pulled. . . I had a 9am Star Tours as a Burner and didn’t have Muppets until 11 something. Learning from my mistake last time I wanted to do AK as the second park so I wouldn’t get caught in rush hour and I had a 1:30pm Guardians. Goal was to get the first three parks done and be at MK by 4pm to get in the last 5 coasters. So the plan was to get to HS an hour before early open and try to get both SDD and MRnR in BEFORE park open. I had 1:30 Guardians MP, and 8PM TRON. But you know plans. . .
HS
I actually amazingly succeeded in getting the crew up and out and into an Uber by 7:15am, we were at the park by 7:30 and ended up 2nd group in line at our turnstile. AMAZING!! Early entry begins - we book toward Slinky and there are cast members telling everyone Slinky is delayed - AARGH!!! This was a major kink in the plan!! So - we head over get into line to Muppets RnR and I set up my Wait Magic (I am sorry I am a fan) to modify my Muppets to a Slinky at earliest time available. We end up getting one for 3:35pm, I kept that running but never got an earlier time. We used the rest of early entry to ride TSMM and did MFSR twice - then hit Star Tours to open up booking and snagged an Everest for around 10:30 as well as other things we wanted. We did some other stuff and also grabbed second breakfast because we are apparently Hobbits. SDD did NOT reopen before we left the park. . . so now we had to come back again. . . not part of the plan.
One coaster down. . .
AK
We grabbed an Uber from HS to AK - we basically Ubered all day because I just wasn’t adding bus delay stress into the mix when carting 4 people around. We basically showed up, did Everest - then my son decided he wanted to do this Churro challenge so we got that and a dole whip and headed to Epcot - we got there around 12:30ish.
Two coasters down. . .
EP
Again Ubered here. . . I had managed to snag a 3:45 Frozen Ever After (remember I also had a 3:35 SDD). In hindsight - we spent too much time at Epcot with this FEA side quest that we should have bailed on - this was a bad decision - but you live and you learn. Everyone had some kind of heavy snack, we checked out the pass holder lounge, we did Guardians, we checked out the new Italy acrobat (we miss Sergio but we liked her a lot), we saw Voices of Liberty, etc. We got into line at Frozen at 3:40 - rode that and booked it over to HS like crazy people (taking the Skyliner). So we were there from 12:30 to 4? remember I was supposed to be at MK at 4. . .
Three coasters down - and some side quests. . .
HS - again
We high tailed it to our LL at SDD - we tapped in at 4:40pm rode that and then ordered a Minnie Van while we got the Churro and took a photo etc. I had a 5pm BarnStormer, a 5:30 Space Mountain and a Big Thunder Mountain around 8pm (this is all approximate)
Four coasters down - whew!
MK
Firstly - can I just say how LOVELY the Minnie Van was - it was our first time and getting dropped off right there super close to security was a godsend for how behind and stressed and tired we were. Worth every Penny!
So we are insanely behind schedule at this point - our Minnie Van dropped us off at 5:30 - a full 90 minutes behind our planned schedule. So I am not remembering this exactly - but Barnstormer or Space Mountain went down I think and we got a Multi Experience pass which we decided to save for Buzz if we could so I rebooked whichever one it was and also pushed the other one later so we weren’t all stressed out before dinner.
Our first order of business was meeting the Great Goofini - BUT he wasn’t OUT because there was a chance of rain and it was getting dangerously close to him not coming back out at all. . . we went ahead and rode Barnstormer - and my daughter got a great notice for her outfit there.
FIVE coasters down. . .
We headed back over to where Goofini meets and there were staff there which was a decently good sign - they said he’d be out in about 20 minutes as long as the weather held it was 6pm we were 3rd in line - and we had a 6:10 Crystal Palace Reservation - I called they said I could be 30 min late with no problem - so I was sweating it out. . .
Goofy BLISSFULLY showed up at about 6:20 and we were seeing him at 6:25 - he of course LOVED the outfit all over again and made a big fuss! It was a little less over the top than when I met him because I think he was trying to be sure he got through the line before the weather was a problem - but it was still great and she was thrilled.
We got over to Crystal palace by 6:45ish - I told them we “got hung up in a character line” and all was well. . . lots of food and lots of desserts were had - DD was very happy.
We finished up dinner a little before 8pm - at this point we knew something would have to give. . . but I let things unfold a bit first. But we saw a RAINBOW - so there was hope we would get this challenge done!!
We got tapped into Space mountain right around 8pm. .
SIX Coasters down. . .
And then TRON around 8:20
SEVEN Coasters down. . .
It was at this point that we decided we were going to take our chances with the 11pm parade - and if we ended up missing it because we were riding 7DMT so be it. . .
Our LL for BTMRR was ending soon so we high tailed it over to there and tapped in at 8:55.
EIGHT Coasters down - ONE TO GO!
When we got off it got a little crazy - DD and I needed a restroom break, DS needed his churro, and the parade was going - we got separated - and cast members weren’t having us waiting for each other - but eventually met up near Memento Mori. At this point the crew decided they’d rather take advantage of the lower wait times during the fireworks instead of watching them (sad for me - but we are coming back in Nov - so ok). We got in line for 7DMT at 9:30pm and got off RIGHT as the fireworks started - so we did not luck out with a ride during the fireworks. We also were not well positioned in our seats for the photo - but whatever. We did IT!!
NINE COASTERS DOWN - CHALLENGE COMPLETE!!
At this point we headed over to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin - our first time since the reopen and my son is a huge fan - we rode once in Standby with a 10 min wait and then once with our Multiexperience Pass.
We then got some castle pics taken and staked out a spot for the 11pm parade. And that’s all she wrote!!
Churro Challenge was also a success:
Overall we had fun - but this was way more exhausting than doing it by myself - I also somehow got blisters on the BALLS OF MY FEET - I used some different cream which I think was the cause as shoes and socks were the same as many a Disney trip. Would I do it again? Sure - why not! It was good times and memories we will all have forever ![]()
