Ride Intensity Guidance

Making our first trip soon, and while the kids and I are still hard core adrenaline junkies, my wife just can’t handle high intensity rides like she used to.

For reference, she does just about everything at Disney. Her favorite ride Guardians Cosmic Rewind, with Flight of Passage up there with it. She did Mission Space Orange and while, to quote, “that about did me in”, she was ok after the ride and fine the rest of the day (definitely one and done though). Rock n Rollercoaster at or just a hair past her limit (again, rode in 2022, did ok). As for simulators she loves Star Tours and we all had a blast on Smugglers Run

So looking at Universal rides… I’m thinking avoid Hulk, Dr Doom, and Velocicoaster. Beyond that, should be ok?

I made this questionnaire a while back. The idea was to see what the ride vehicles look like and share some info regarding intensity. Go through it and see if it helps.

Ah yes, thanks! Maybe you can delete those retired attractions from your original post.

Yeah…I am out of the office right now. I had to use an old bookmark…:rofl:

While were on the topic… is Forbidden Journey really that bad? It seems to be the ride mentioned most for ruining people’s day. Then again it’s hard to know if it’s just a really loud minority. For example, Guardians Cosmic Rewind at Disney gets a lot of these complaints but we were all just fine afterwards. I was slightly disoriented getting off, but not in a “I’m sick” kind of way. I would’ve jumped back on given the chance!

For some people, it is. Me and my family have no issues, even riding it twice in a row.

I’d guess it effects less than 5% of people??

Do you get sick at all on Star Tours? It’s a different kind of ride than a straight simulator, but it’s the closest comparison.

ETA: GotG doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Forbidden Journey wrecks me.

Star Tours? We’ve been on it several times, zero problems. We step off of that ride feeling the same way we do after any other ride.

Then my best guess is that you will be fine with FJ. It’s worth a try – even I, who nearly vomited while riding it (both times, about 10 years apart) think it was worth trying. You never know who will be affected and who won’t be. I wish I could enjoy it.

It depends what you mean by this.

VelociCoaster is very fast and features a top hat and some inversions. But it’s really comfortable and buttery smooth. I always ride it.

I don’t like to ride RNR at WDW, nor EE, yet those are probably less intense in terms of adrenalin.

I don’t like the Hulk or RRR at UOR. Too rough.

I agree on everything except that I like riding RNR and EE, even though RNR in particular can be rough.

I’m not a fan of FJ. I can ride it, but sometimes feel rough for a short time afterwards. I just don’t think it’s that great a ride. The transitions from screens to physical scenes and props is too jarring. Love the line, though. Last time I was there I walked the line and then bailed just before loading.

I don’t even like Space Mountain. I’m not a huge fan of BTM, either.

But VelociCoaster? Every day of the week.

This is what I usually do. The queue is fantastic.
