Resort Advice: Father + Son Trip!

Just chiming on that we got a standard room at Movies, requested Mighty Ducks (only because we are hockey fans) and our room was probably closer to the Music main building than some of the Music preferred rooms!

I’m going to echo that I’d go with Sports to save the money and ask for football or movies and Mighty Ducks. The locations are great.

We will be staying in the Family Suites…so when we do our room request, sounds like we should request Calypso, but away from the main pool. Wondering how I should word that.

Use the room request thing? We are facing foliage with the parking lot on the other side.

Yes. It is that if I just say away from the main pool, they could interpret that as Jazz Inn. I prefer Calypso, but in the rooms that aren’t near the pool (due to noise). Do I say the backside of the buildings? Or maybe say not facing the pool?

I think if you pick an exact room away from the pool and then type in notes ?

Yeah. That’s a good plan. Usually I delete the exact room part because I don’t think it tells them anything useful if I don’t care about an exact room…but in this case, maybe it would demonstrate a room on the backside of Calypso better.

I’m willing to be convinced on the Skyliner access! Does it make it a lot more convenient, quicker, or less of a walk? Or is it just entirely personal preference?

Maaaaaaybeeee.

It depends on which building you are in, and also what time of day it is. If you aren’t fighting rope drop crowds, it is a breeze…and a lovely ride as well. Very relaxing and pretty, and even kind of fun.

But there are times it doesn’t run at all, so you still end up taking buses…which may be just as easy/quick…but not nearly as ā€œcoolā€.

Thank you!! In that case, maybe $60 ain’t worth ā€œcoolā€ for us. We’d rather spend it on something in the park, if at all. It might become my LLMP and LLSP budget haha

That’s how I often look at extras. If saving $30 a night doesn’t look like much, on a five night stay I figure where else I could spend that $150, so to speak.

It all adds up!

Pop Century all the way! The Skyliner will make travel to HS and Epcot so easy. And the bus to AK is short. Dad may evjoy the theming there the best. Request 50s section.

Not really. In some instances but I don’t think in yours.

I think February is also a good time of year for Skyliner reliability.

All Stars Perfered are similarly priced to Pop Standard. There are plenty of standard rooms close to Skyliner and the main dining hall too.

We did a Nemo suite because by some miracle I snagged a discount and the room was under $400 a night. Theming would be the only reason I recommend AoA to anyone anymore. It was cute but the Music Suites or two rooms at an All Stars/ Pop would be preferred.

Yes. And the transportation is closer for most rooms. I’m not sure how fit your father is but finding ways to cut down on the walking could mean the difference in overall enjoyment. And the Skyliner is just FANTASTIC.

Request Calypso and closer to the parking lots.

Saying ā€œnoā€ and ā€œnotā€ is discouraged in room requests. It often gets over looked.

Yes, lol. (Request 50s section)

For weather and refurbs. Late February it should be quite nice.

Personal preference. It’s my favorite form of transportation at WDW and it is one of my favorite rides. But if I’m really trying to be budget conscious I will usually do All Stars.

The Skyliner is a little more convenient than buses for HS and EP, especially for rope dropping Remy. But I’ve always been impressed by how quick and frequent the buses run at the All Stars.

Oh if it’s a choice between Skyliner or LLMP, I would 100% recommend LLMP. You will save far more time in line than you would vs the buses.

I think it is. Skyliner access was even more important to me when I went with my mom. We rented a scooter for her for the week. It’s significantly easier to get a scooter on the Skyliner, (or monorail, but we’re not talking about deluxe here) than it is to get on busses.

In reality not a choice between, as I would do both if necessary. Thank you all for these datapoints! I’ll talk it through with my father and see what he is feeling.

When weather shuts down the Skyliner is there any notification

Or do you exit at the International Gate in order to find out?

There is often a message in MDE that says the Skyliner may be down due to inclement weather, but it is usually not a push notification and you have to go check the Skyliner schedule in the app. So usually the first indication, if you can’t already presume it’s closed due to lightning or wind, is when you exit at International Gateway and find out first hand.

Note that CMs will usually tell you to go to the front entrance of Epcot to catch a bus, but if you ignore them, they typically have a bus from the Skyliner station itself.

Father and I are going with AS Sports - and the money difference is going to be saved or spent on some merch/gifts! Thank you all for your advice!!

So now, should I purchase using gift cards for additional savings?? There’s the trick with the gift cards for like 5-10% extra savings right? (quick research shows me minimal savings at Sams - don’t have Target Red cards for their 5% off)
