I think it’s just because I’m renting at a busy time. A lot of runners like to drive in to the races, so heavier demand for cars
Does anyone have experience renting EVs at Disney? On other forums, I’ve heard people remark that you shouldn’t rent an EV if you don’t have one at home. I appreciate that its challenging for find a charging station in the Disney bubble- I for one don’t want to sacrifice park time in search of charging facilities…
But…. I found a great rate on an EV and we are staying at the Cabins at Ft Wilderness. I believe there is a plug out front that we can use? Are there other downsides to renting EVs at Disney other than charging?
We own EVs and I am among the majority suggesting that Disney isn’t the best place to experience your first EV. But I don’t think it’s hard and fast. It could be doable and I wouldn’t hesitate to rent an EV if the price is right.
All that being said, I would be leery about planning to use a 110v plug at the campground. First, I don’t know if the rental company will give you the plug in the first place. Second, I would be a little curious if Disney would allow you to plug a car in. (It’s fine but my company, for example, prohibits it.) Third, 110v will be very slow depending on the vehicle.
Do you know what vehicle you would get?
Literally trying to learn how to use an EV while on vacation. It’s not one of those things to try, especially when there’s other things you want to do
I thought you were talking about an ECV all this time. Just clicked. ![]()
I agree you should just stick to something you are familiar with, unless you feel like trying an EV is a “vacation worthy” experience in and of itself. It’s a vacation - which is supposed to mean no stress, relaxation, etc. The best thing for the environment is to use Disney transport, if that is your priority.
The charging issue is what kept me away from an EV. While there may be a plug in front of your cabin, it’s hard to know if it will work with the car.
It will depend on the brand of EV and what Disney has available. We always had to drive off property or nearby to charge our EV. There are limited charging spots on WDW and seemed to always be occupied. There was a charging station near DS that we used. Parking lots have EV charging rows, but seemed to be fully occupied. I don’t know if I would feel comfortable plugging into the Cabin power…. The resort will be able to direct you ![]()
Thank you all for your feedback. We are annual pass holders and basically use the car to get to and from the airport, the grocery store and maybe an AK rope drop. Truth is- we don’t even “need”a car. But at $12 a day, it felt too good to be true.
where did you find this deal?
Same, I’ll drive to Kissimmee to hyper charge if I need to for $12/day.
