Is there a cost or other benefit to renewing an AP before it expires? Mine is set to expire 10/1.
It is cheaper than waiting and buying it new.
If you have an Incredipass it is somewhat substantial…almost $200 savings.
But it isn’t worth it if you weren’t planning at least a couple trips in the 12 month window.
ETA…I think you can renew up to 30 days after it expires to get the renewal price…but the starting date is retroactive.
That’s a major savings. Thank you!
Also remember that they will commonly announce ticket/annual pass price increases sometime in early October so it might be worthwhile to renew before the price goes up if you are planning to renew anyway.
…and by renewing you won’t risk losing the benefit of AP …IF… they decide to discontinue sales
… why I renewed even though I’m not going again until January …the whole what if they discontinue the sale of it again.
The only gap I have had in the last 5 years was due to Covid - I did not renew when travel was blocked to the US from Canada. So my AP expired in Nov 2020 (due to the extension - originally expiry was June) …and then they let me purchase a new AP that I activated in Sept 2021 …and it’s been ongoing since. As long as I can get at least 2 trips per year in, I’ll keep it.
This is the trick.
So, my current AP will expire next March. We used it for our trip in March, our trip in September, and again for our upcoming trip in January. Definitely was worth it. BUT, we are then planning a trip to Disney in December of 2025…the problem is, we haven’t finalized plans go to Disney in January 2026. Originally, we were just going to do a UOR trip then for EU. But…my DDIL, who was originally going to join us this upcoming January to Disney can’t because she is expecting her first child in December. So NOW we thinking of adding in a Disney portion to the trip in January 2026. If we do, it is worth getting the AP. If we don’t, it would be a waste.
Fortunately, we have some time before I have to finalize a decision on that.
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I was able to get three trips out of the current AP. The new one only has plans for two trips right now, but I am speaking a third one into existence. It has me thinking. If you could only choose one - what would it be? More TIME to take wdw trips, or more MONEY. to take wdw trips?
The two seem inextricably linked. If I had more time to take WDW trips, I would need more money. And if I had more money for trips (than I currently take) I would need more time to take those trips.
BUT, I suppose if I really had to pick one, I would choose going more often or longer, even if it means scrimping more for each of those trips. Maybe.
That’s how I feel.
