I renewed my ap, but the original one doesn’t expire until after I leave this trip. If I don’t activate the renewal before I leave, do I essentially extend the renewal?
Or does the year kick off regardless if I activate or not?
Since you renewed, the year kicks off immediately. The only way to extend is to let it expire and then buy a new one, without the discount.

If you use the discounts often I would get the card before you leave to save time next trip.
