Refillable mugs 14 days or...length of stay?

I have a question about the refillable mugs at Disney resorts.

I believe they are $21.99 for the length of stay OR 14 days. But I am confused by this. Does this actually just mean 14 days? I am asking because I am technically doing a “split stay” but at the same resort. 5 nights in Boardwalk 1 bedroom, and 1 night in Boardwalk Studio. Will the mug still work for that final day? Our length of stay is 6 nights, but across two reservations.

Length of stay

But, I have heard of people getting it extended

I think you’ll be fine - they seem to just activate it for 14 days, with no link to reservation. Last stay, ours expired at the 14 day mark and we asked to get them extended. I think that extension is at CM discretion - the signs used to all say ‘length of stay’ but last time we were there, most said ‘14 days’…

If you are staying more than 14 days they can alter the validity period when you first get it. I just showed all our reservations and the CM entered our final check-out date.

Alternatively they will extend.

It really isn’t just at the CM’s discretion. It’s their policy.

Officially yes, I’m sure.

But I’ve heard people offering a wink and a nudge (on podcasts) to get it extended without any evidence of stay

Let’s call it pixie dust.

Okay, thanks. So it sounds like most likely if I got a mug, it wouldn’t be a problem at all to use on day 7, despite the room change…but even if it did, I could just ask a CM to extend it for that day because I can show them I have a reservation.

I’m not 100% sure I’m going to get it, but since I’m working on property for 3 days, I thought it could be worth it this time around. The alternative is to add a couple twelve-packs of soda to an Instagram order.

It’s definitely 14 days. …or until they release new mugs if you only drink Decaf Coffee like me

Maybe pixie dust to get it extended without having an on-going stay.

But if you have an onsite stay of more than 14 days, whether one reservation or a split stay, the mug is valid for your entire stay. That’s their policy. No pixie dust required.

Oh gotcha.

Misunderstood

Have never had an onsite stay that long :sob: so it wouldn’t even have occurred to me to understand what you were saying in that way!

Yeah. This was the crux of my confusion.

There are two ways (at least) you can interpret their statement when they say it is valid for length of stay OR 14 days.

It could mean:

  1. That it is valid for your length of stay, UP TO 14 days, whichever is shorter
  2. That is valid for at least 14 days, but longer if your length of stay is longer.

Sounds like the consensus is that it is 2, not 1.

Jeremy from the defunct Backside of Magic podcast was a master at testing this out - definitively determined when they push the button to activate you get 14 days. He was able to talk CMs with various conversations into pushing the button multiple times, each button push adding another 14.

OK fine @JJT just point them in the exact direction of what I was being discreet about

Yes, this is definitely what happens. Last time we were there, most signs did say ‘for length of stay, up to 14 days’ (at least at Poly/GF) but the recent photos look like they might have reverted to ‘length of stay’ only.

Good tip to show them the reservation when you purchase though and get them to set the end date longer!

I’m still a little slow on the uptake. #covidbrain

How is the Covid btw?

Still moving slowly, but overall fine, thanks.

Think I was getting close to an ear infection - Can’t hear out of my left ear! so weird.
(I never had an ear infection in my life until several years ago, then it suddenly became my thing. Good times.)

Back in office today wearing a mask just in case. My nephew works for me and his DW is due to have a baby in the next couple of weeks so I’m hiding in my closed office and turned up the AC ventilation.

He actually doesn’t care if I wear a mask, but I ain’t going to be the guy that gave them all COVID.

Congrats to them!

My nephew and his wife just had their first baby - the first in that generation for our family - last week! It’s very exciting

For my longer trips it’s usually off-site or mix of on-site and off-site and we still get the resort mug because we often tour around the resorts, or go for meals there so we refill whenever we have a chance. Even if just at Epcot, we’ll pop over to Boardwalk for a refill. I like having the mug on hand for drinks ordered while in the parks because you can bring the mug on rides. It does not take many refills to make it worth it.

14 days. I’ve used a mug for 4 days before a cruise. Did a 5 day Disney cruise then came back and used the mug again after the cruise at a different resort for two more days.
