We plan to rope drop PPF tomorrow. We are not frequent visitors, so have never done this. What is the preferred route walking from the gate to the ride? Can you go through the castle at that time of day?

Hopefully there is someone who has done this more recently than I have, but last time I did it in 2023, this was the route.
I would definitely ask a CM when you get to the hub, cause procedure changes, but usually they guide people the same way as 7DMT and then people branch off to different Fantasyland attractions.

Not in my experience, but I don’t know if this has changed since they got rid of some of the castle stage shows.
I love rope dropping PPF! It’s such a great way to start the day with a litte nostalgia - and it tends to be a pretty leisurely experience because the majority of the Fantasyland crowd goes for 7DMT (and I think the FL crowds are lower now than they used to be with some choosing to head for Tron in hopes of it starting at the end of EE). And it’s still a big time saver compared to standby wait times later in the day.
Unfortunately, I also haven’t done it in more than two years, but back then we were never able to go through the castle - we always lined up with the 7DMT crowd at the rope in front of the tea cups (to the right of the castle).
My understanding is that MK is currently letting the the EE crowd head straight to their first attraction rather than wait at a specific rope - so I suspect there are clearly marked entrances into Fantasyland and you will have time to ask a CM which is the one closest to PPF without any huge RD hordes building up at any one point/storming past you.
