Poll Time! The Case for CEO

Today’s episode of The Case For was a discussion about what each of the hosts would do if they were CEO of Disney. Keep in mind that since they were imagining themselves as CEO, they stuck to proposals that would make money for Disney … at least over the long term.

My question for you …

Which of these proposals would you be most supportive of?

(Select up to 3)

  • Bring back Disney’s Magical Express

I have an “other” vote because I want Tables in Wonderland to return to at minimum all TS locations through Disney World. It may be too much to also hope that Swan/Dolphin would also participate again if it returned, but a girl can dream. I believe that almost all table service dining has been much easier to book these days, and there is a lot of last minute availability. Bringing it back and limiting it to in park dining would frustrate me.

The Pee Pass made me laugh. Imagine picking that as your platform

I actually have an “other”, but it is directly tied to two of the ones I picked, so I didn’t pick “other”.

So, having now experienced being stuck on the monorail and/or monorail station multiple times recently, including being “trapped” due to severe weather while sitting ON the monorail itself, I am not sure just upgrading the monorail system would be enough.

I also think the Skyliner has become a favorite mode of transportation (granted, as long as there isn’t inclement weather), which is why I think adding a Skyliner to get to DS and AK would be pretty cool.

However, at MK, I think they should consider eliminating the express monorail, and only have the monorail loop be for those going to/from resorts. Then, in addition to the Ferry, have a Skyliner that goes directly between MK and the TTC as an alternative.

Granted, the one problem has to do with how to manage resort guests staying in the MK resorts wanting to go to Epcot via monorail. Allowing that connection means people will start using the Resort monorail from MK to TTC as they often do now (which overwhelms the resort monorails at park closing in particularly). I’m sure something can be figured out for that!

I think expanding the skyliner could be an issue, if it is seen as a long-term money saving move for Disney. If the expansion is seen as a way to reduce the buses, what happens when there are storms? Will there be enough back-up buses to deal with a SL shutdown?

Since there already enough buses today, they should have them…but, this point is valid for whether there would be enough bus drivers!

Curious how this is handled today when boats go down for weather, or current Skyliner goes down for Skyliner resorts. There is a sudden need for significantly more drivers. (We got stuck at POR because the boats went down due to lightning in the area, but they didn’t send more buses. It took 1.5 hours before we finally were able to actually get on a bus…so the problem is real!)

I know we always wanted school buses replaced by 7 years. I just think it would be too easy to not maintain that inventory as a cost savings.

That’s a good point…and actually, those Disney buses probably have far more action on them daily than school buses!!!

Other:

Cheaper than Skyliner is a waterway between AKL and AK. Especially if the boats will run late enough to provide supper business to Tiffins, Rain Forest and whatever.
Digging a trench is cheaper than pouring foundations and buying boats is cheaper than buying a gondola system. The boats can also fit the animal/jungle theme. Will the reimagined DinoLand be able to be open after dark? Will Pandora be able to be open after dark. Does Disney have the Cast Members to staff this.

Villains character meal will be swamped for a while. Especially if there’s a rare villain character randomly added to the usual Characters. We get a different Star Wars ride every time. Rotate the villains often. This will bring in more money than a coaster, tho a Volcano coaster - even family friendly - could be really epic.

Merch delivery service is a no brainer. Folks buy less so they don’t have to carry it. $15 isn’t even a tip at most sit down meals. This service doesn’t require significant increase in cast members - like both water parks open at the same time would require.

Does the Loo Pass decrease the number of LLs being bought.

I’d love an Adventurers Club. Maybe in reimagined DinoLand, where boats from AKL bring guests.

The monorail unfortunately can not increase capacity in a way that matters. If it weren’t for lightning, I’d suggest replacing with the Skyliner. The monorail was unusual for its time. Perhaps Imagineers can use maglev, the availability of horizontal space around the MK resorts, trackless routes and automated delivery of transit vehicles to develop a new cutting edge system for delivering guests to destinations around the Bay Lake area. If I were CEO I’d hesitate to put money into a system than can’t move the numbers needing to be moved.

Another Other is a second campground - with camp sites that accommodate today’s RVs with slides. Put this campground over in the AK area. Running the utilities to the campsites is perhaps cheaper than bathroom plumbing and fixtures for a typical hotel with the same occupancy. Concrete site pads are cheaper then even a value room. Turn over between is quicker with a campsite - guy drives up in a cart, hooks up a hose, sprays down the pad, secures what trash is there and moves on. A campground requires fewer CMs. Try to book a site within a few months of your travel dates at Ft Wilderness. I priced a premium campsite one summer for the next winter at $147/night (I think 2025). Why is a campground, themed to AK/AKL, not at least in the planning stage. No brainer. And not every thing needs to be DVC.

Great idea. :+1:

That is an out-of-the-box idea! I wonder how their campsite demand is currently and whether they feel they could use another one.

I’m voting for you to run things, just FYI. Brilliant.

I haven’t looked this year tho the campground has been hard to get into unless it’s months out.

A couple of times since covid I’ve looked at costs for renting a camper in Orlando and then the campsite. Commensurate with 2 value rooms but they wouldn’t have a kitchen and plenty of bathrooms.

People think the internal bus is slow. Everyone’s mileage differs tho my experiences have been similar to OKW or POR.

I am extremely partial to a campground, tho. Way less peopley.

Someone said walkway.

So I looked at a map, with the aerial view. There’s already water beside Pandora and towards AKL. (And didn’t seem to be any animals)

Who wants to walk when they can float on the water.

This! People will want to stay at those properties just to get to AK this way.

So many of these are niche or higher-end items. I voted for attraction, breakfast and water parks.

I’ll bet people would be more likely to buy merchandise in the parks if they had free delivery to the resorts. Although, I wouldn’t mind paying for that.

YES! That’s a great idea.

Or better yet - Skyliner between a point between WL and FtW, on the WL side of Pioneer Hall. Serves the DVC thing being built there as well as the Lodge and campground.

Still weather dependent

The problem with all the current transport options, other than Monorail and Bus, is that they are at the mercy of the weather.

How about a PeopleMover? Maybe one that is enclosed or under a canopy? Not necessarily one like the one in Tomorrowland, but similar concept of a constantly loading pod dispatcher?

That’s essentially what I was talking about but with new tech - maglev so no moving parts, which could move along on pavement properly prepared for trackless travel. A party of guests enters a queue where they enter party number and destination on a touch screen. They’re directed to a loading gate, maybe given an identifier, like Goofy or Mickey and Minnie (large group) and when their conveyance arrives and the door opens they enter and relax until they’ve arrived at wherever.
