I’m not sure if it was addressed because there were lots of ideas going on, but the $15 charge for package delivery was proposed as an express delivery fee. A nitpick, but an important point because the normal service would be included for a two day delivery, while the express for a fee would be for next day.
Monorail is as well, just not as much so. Last December, my wife and I and about a billion other folks were trapped on the monorail due to severe weather. They had to pull even the express monorails under the shelter of the Poly. It took 45+ minutes before they finally felt it had lightened enough to start them running again. It was stupid, too because they wouldn’t shut the Monorail doors. The people standing by the doors were getting drenched!!!
We have sworn off MCO in favor or the ease and pricing of SFB. But, I might be convinced to go back to MCO if there was a free transportation option again.
I have questions. ![]()
- What airlines fly into SFB? I tried to do a search, and no flights were coming up. I found that Sun Country does, but to go from DTW, it means an 11 hour layover in MSP!!!
- How do you get from SFB to WDW (and back)?
We fly Allegiant to SFB. I think that is the primary airline that goes there. I think they are actually merging with Sun Country.
We used Away We Go shuttle because we needed car seats. It was obviously a longer shuttle drive and more expensive ride. But the time to get out of SFB is so much shorter than MCO that it still may have been a shorter time to get to the hotel ultimately. This trip was Universal only. I stopped with the kids to go to the restroom and DH had already gotten the bags and was ready to head out by the time we were done. It is tiny! So tiny that you basically all share a seating area for the gates. The food is limited and expensive. But it was just so speedy and sparse. There were no crowds anywhere. Barely any lines. Worth it to us!
ETA: We usually fly Delta to MCO, so Allegiant was much less expensive.
Ah, Okay. Allegiant doesn’t fly out of DTW.
From my point of view as a WDW guest (which I am once a year), I’d want (1) Volcano themed coaster, (2) Resort Airline Check-In, and (3) Villains themed breakfast.
From the point of view of the WDW CEO (which I am not), I’d think they would go for the uncharge stuff: (1) Merch room delivery service, (2) Resort Airline Check-In (for a fee), and (3) Villains themed breakfast.
I actually think Disney would likely see increased revenue by having merch room delivery service without charging a dime for it. A $15 charge to me makes the service really unreasonable, other than for relatively expensive items. If I buy, say, a new Mug that I don’t want broken, that $15 charge is a huge “tax”. But Disney risks losing the sale entirely.
If they want to have a fee, I think they should make it a percentage service fee, up to a maximum. Maybe 10% service fee or something nominal. Then, the incremental increase is reasonable for cheaper purchases, but Disney gets a little extra, plus gets the sale they might not have otherwise.
Disney needs to balance profitability with keeping the experience feeling “magical” for guests. A flat $15 charge feels like a money grab. But offering the “feature” for 10% feels like a bargain and magical.
ETA: Also, with the $15 flat fee, what happens if I stop into 3 different shops throughout my park visit? Do I pay $15 three times???
Good question. What about a $15 flat fee for your entire stay if you use the service?
I do agree that people would buy more merch if they had the free service.
This actually would be a good idea from Disney’s perspective. A guest can make an in-the-moment decision, but knowing that they now have the service available to them, they could have this urge to “make the most of it” by buying more…so they might not just buy more than they would have otherwise, but they might buy things they wouldn’t if the service was 100% free because they want to make the most of the $15 fee. Seems kind of win-win.
just the MCO monorail to the main terminal. I’ve only used SFB once and was prepared to be unimpressed.
I can drive 2 hrs to StL and fly SW to MCO
Or I can drive 2 hours to Springfield and fly Allegiant to SFB.
I saw a couple checking their 2 giant suitcases each at the Allegiant counter - $75 each unless they had the Allegiant card tho I no longer recall the perks. Also flights out of/return to Springfield are only twice a week, I think.
SFB has practically no walking compared to MCO and it’s less sensory overwhelming. It is further from WDW. Riding every ride the day my plane lands in Florida has never been a thing.
Each person has their own trade-offs which helps keep SFB small. ![]()
I honestly missed some of the conversation during this part of the episode so I’m not sure exactly what the proposal was, but @feep mentioned that the $15 was for “express” delivery of next day vs. two days for the free version. That makes sense, though I agree that a 10% upcharge would be more reasonable than a flat fee.
That’s kind of a weird distinction. So, really preying upon (err., uh…offering to) people who wait until the last full day to buy things?
I’ll admit, I never was able to take advantage of this service in the “before times”, so I’m not sure how it worked…was it always next day? I figured it would be by morning the next day in case folks were checking out.
I found reliable “before times” info. ![]()
ETA: This was October 2019.
Thank you, kind sir!
So then I can see how bringing back the service in general (for free) would be one bump in revenue for Disney…and then the extra $15 rush charge would bring in a little extra.
If you really want to go further back, they would deliver it to your room and leave it on your bed or table.
There will be demerits on your evaluation.
100%
I know I can’t be the only person who saw some merch item I wanted, but didn’t buy it because I didn’t want to lug it around all day - or backtrack to get it later.
Maybe free to resort gift shop. A fee for room direct delivery?
Disney merch is so wildly inflated already that any “upcharge” for delivering to anywhere on property is borderline offensive.
I deferred purchases while in the Parks in lieu of purchasing at Disney Springs, which is where I was meeting my transportation to MCO. The items were not available at Disney Springs, so Disney lost those opportunities.
