Optimize is telling me to do Slinky at 10am instead of 8:30am

Building a plan and when I optimize it tells me to do RnR, ToT, and TSM first then do Slinky at 10am for a 33min wait. If I force Slinky first at 8:30 it says its a 30 minute wait. If that were true it would make sense to knock off RnR and Tot first, but I don’t believe 33mins if I wait until 10am. Am I missing something? (We have a SLL for Rise later. No LLMP.)

Most likely the software is assuming you will not be in the front of the line. If you will be at the entrance 60 minutes before early opening, start your plan with a 20 minute break, and drop SDD from your plan.

The software will also look at the overall shortest total wait. I do agree that that 10am wait seems way too low, even on a low CL day.

I agree with this. I would not count on a 33 min wait for SDD at 10 am.

Are you able to do this …

Yeah, that seems unlikely.

If you aren’t at the very front of rope drop, a good option is to ride something else, possibly 2 depending on the timing. Then get in line by 8:55. My wait was 30 mins last time I did that!

Whenever I’ve optimized HS with SDD in the plan, it seems it will almost always do everything possible to put SDD at 10:00. It must be using a graph like this.

On a related note, I believe when staff did a Peter Pan marathon this fall (?), they specifically tested the 10:00 dip. I don’t recall the result.

A lot of rides have a pattern of dips mid morning. I wonder why and if it’s real.

We won’t make it an hour before opening as we are checking out that morning and I realistically won’t be able to get the extended family out in time. By 8:30 is more realistic.

Len talked about this on today’s Disney Dish.

He was testing HS plans.

The mid-morning dip phenomenon is briefly discussed in this post in the section titled “Midday Magic:”

Great podcast, thank you!

At 14:53 Len says

We’re actually going to add a new button to the Touring Plans software that says, “I really mean rope drop. I’m willing to run over grandparents and small children to do this.”

At 15:45 he begins to state there’s a lull in the SDD line about 45 minutes after the park opens.

The other thing with optimizing is that it is supposed to look at wait times for all attractions. So, you may have a few minutes shorter wait for Slinky Dog if you rope drop, but it may make your waits for every other attraction longer. If you wait until later and get a couple of other attractions knocked out earlier, your total wait time may be less.

Ooh awesome, thanks! I’m behind on Disney Dish episodes. I’m planning a trip for early April and am hoping to not use LLMPs, too much $$$. My hope is with lots of pre-planning and taking advantage of EEs in the morning, we can zoom through some lines! :crossed_fingers:

I sincerely hope he does this!
