The Epic Tale of gMagicScott’s Pilgrimage to the Bubble - Part 14: A Jolly Good Time at Jollywood Nights

The Journey to Jollywood

As our intrepid hero bid farewell to his Animal Kingdom companions, he set his sights on the glitz and glamour of Hollywood Studios. The bus corral, like the final boss in a video game, awaited at the end of a long line. Alas, as gMagicScott approached, he witnessed his chariot pulling away, leaving him stranded like Cinderella after midnight.

But fear not, dear readers! For our hero, weary from his Animal Kingdom adventures, found solace in this moment of respite. Settling onto the ground like a true Disney veteran, gMagicScott embraced the peace and quiet, a rare commodity in the bustling world of Walt Disney World.

Fifteen minutes later, as if summoned by Mickey’s magic wand itself, a bus appeared. In a twist of fate worthy of a Disney movie, gMagicScott found himself the sole passenger, riding in style like a true VIP to his Jollywood Nights adventure.

Entering the World of Jollywood

At 8:30 PM, a full hour after the official start time, gMagicScott breached the gates of Hollywood Studios. Like a seasoned time traveler, he effortlessly navigated security and the tapstiles, acquiring his golden ticket - a plastic yellow wristband - and not one, but two copies of the event guide. (One for use, one for posterity - a true Disney collector’s move!)

Gone were the lanyards of yesteryear, replaced by a more practical guide that didn’t blind our hero with its glare. However, gMagicScott couldn’t help but wish for Disney’s crystal ball to publish these guides in advance, allowing for meticulous planning worthy of a Disney Imagineer.

As our hero ventured deeper into the park, he encountered the final sweep of day guests, feeling like a VIP at an exclusive after-hours event. Pausing for a party-exclusive photo op, gMagicScott multitasked like a pro, perusing the showtime guide to craft his evening’s battle plan.

The Tip Top Club: A Step Back in Time

Venturing down Sunset Boulevard, gMagicScott found himself transported to another era. The Tower of Terror, adorned with dancing lights and projections, set the stage for a magical evening. As “snow” filled the air, our hero felt as though he’d stepped into a Hollywood snow globe.

Bypassing the temptation of a 13-minute wait for Tower of Terror, gMagicScott made his way to the Tip Top Club (or rather, its stand-in at the ride’s exit courtyard). Feeling slightly underdressed after his Animal Kingdom escapades, our hero sidled up to the “Tip Top Tastes” bar, where the 1939 Royal caught his discerning eye.

As the band struck up their first notes, gMagicScott sipped his 4-star concoction, savoring the light, refreshing blend of pear and lime, served in a collectible (albeit plastic) champagne flute. The music, as intoxicating as the drink, nearly tempted our hero to linger, but the siren call of the Theater of the Stars beckoned.

Holidays in Hollywood: A Star-Studded Spectacular

The “Holidays in Hollywood” show proved to be a true showstopper, earning two enthusiastic thumbs up from our discerning critic. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Tiana, and Belle dazzled in a performance so captivating that gMagicScott vowed to return in December, even if it meant sacrificing other experiences.

A Stroll Through Tinseltown

With time to kill before his Brown Derby reservation, gMagicScott embarked on a leisurely tour of the park. A loop around Echo Lake offered a chance to soak in the festive atmosphere, punctuated by a stop for the Instagram-worthy (but less palate-pleasing) Santa Gerdie cookie. Our hero couldn’t help but chuckle at his oversight in photographing the cookie still in its bag - a rookie mistake for such a seasoned Disney veteran!

Jazzy Holidays at the Brown Derby

As 10 PM approached, gMagicScott found himself at the Brown Derby, inadvertently catching an obstructed view of the “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” fireworks show. While the pyrotechnics might impress at a small-town celebration, they paled in comparison to Disney’s grander spectacles, earning a mere 1.5 stars from our discerning hero.

Finally seated inside Brown Derby at 10:30, our hero settled in for a culinary adventure. But alas! As he put down his bag and picked up the menu, the live jazz player finished her set and headed out. Talk about timing worthy of a Disney villain’s plot! However, in true Disney fashion, a magical twist awaited. Mere minutes later, a new performer took the stage, proving equally talented with an excellent selection of music. gMagicScott noted that while the volume was low for a solo diner, it might have been ideal for table conversation had he been accompanied.

gMagicScott’s gastronomic journey began with a 4-star Espresso Martini, its strong, quality coffee flavor setting the tone for the evening. The difficult choice between appetizers resulted in a delightful duo: Jazzy Holiday Sliders and Pork Belly Bao.

The Jazzy Holiday Sliders, while appearing dry to the eye, proved deceptively moist to the palate. Our hero pondered the lettuce variety, suspecting a case of iceberg masquerading as bibb. A touch more onion jam wouldn’t have gone amiss, but overall, these sliders slid into a solid 4-star rating.

The Pork Belly Bao, served simultaneously with the sliders, faced the perils of cooling too quickly. gMagicScott, in hindsight, wished he’d alternated between the two dishes. The bao shells were passable, and the pork, while teetering on the edge of dryness, didn’t quite fall off the cliff. The true star of this dish was the kimchi, elevating the entire experience to a commendable 5 stars.

For his second libation, gMagicScott opted for an Old Fashioned. Alas, this drink proved to be the evening’s low point, barely scraping by with 2 stars. Our hero likened it to a concoction from a nondescript hotel bar using rail bourbon. The saving grace? Perfectly balanced ratios, a feat his current hotel bar had failed to achieve.

As gMagicScott savored the last bites and awaited his check, the jazz ensemble underwent another changing of the guard. Our hero marveled at Disney’s foresight in having multiple performers to maintain a seamless atmosphere, ensuring no dull moments during breaks.

In total, gMagicScott’s Brown Derby experience spanned 1 hour and 15 minutes. While the food quality and live music impressed, our hero couldn’t help but question the wisdom of dedicating a quarter of the event’s duration to a single dining experience. A conundrum worthy of a Disney planning forum debate!

What’s This? A Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along

Emerging from the Brown Derby, our hero made a beeline for the Hyperion Theater and the “What’s This?” sing-along. While the surprise factor had diminished since last year, the improved performances and extended theming outside the theater added a fresh layer of holiday magic.

Epic Eats: A Not-So-Epic Disappointment

Alas, not all that glitters is gold in the world of Disney snacks, and Epic Eats proved to be a cautionary tale of culinary disappointment. The Spicy Korean Chicken Funnel Cake, a far cry from last year’s standout Reuben Funnel Cake, was a culinary catastrophe that left our hero questioning the very laws of Disney magic. The chicken, while lightly breaded, failed to deliver on its spicy promise, even by Disney’s typically tame standards. The pickled slaw seemed to have missed its pickling appointment, presenting as plain cabbage strips. But the true tragedy lay in the funnel cake itself - overcooked to a crunch that would make even the most stalwart theme park snack enthusiast wince. In a move that would shock even the hungriest of park-goers, gMagicScott only managed to consume a mere 20% before reluctantly offering the remainder to the nearest trash receptacle. A disappointing 0 stars for this misadventure in fried fare.

Hoping to salvage the experience, our intrepid hero turned to liquid comfort in the form of a Warm Spiced Chai cocktail. Alas, even this beverage failed to live up to its name, arriving at a temperature best described as “lukewarm at best.” While not offensively bad, it lacked the special quality one expects from a Disney holiday offering. gMagicScott found himself bestowing a middling 3 stars upon this unremarkable libation. In a final act of desperation (or perhaps clever repurposing), our hero resorted to gnawing on the cinnamon stick garnish, using its potent flavor to erase the memory of the funnel cake fiasco.

This Epic Eats experience serves as a stark reminder that even in the most magical place on Earth, culinary missteps can occur. One can only hope that the ghost of last year’s triumphant Reuben Funnel Cake will inspire future improvements.

Last-Minute Magic

As the clock ticked closer to the bewitching hour, gMagicScott embarked on a whirlwind tour of the remaining Jollywood Nights offerings. His first stop was Stage 1, the exclusive home of party merchandise. Unlike the early hours of the event when lines snaked through the park, our hero waltzed right in during the final 45 minutes. The selection, while not as extensive as more established parties and festivals, was a marked improvement from the previous year. Unable to resist the siren call of exclusive souvenirs, gMagicScott procured the coveted passholder t-shirt and event pin, adding to his ever-growing collection of Disney memorabilia.

Emerging from Stage 1 with his treasures in tow, our hero’s keen eye spotted a surprisingly short line at Santa’s Workshop. This hidden gem, nestled between Pizza Rizzo and Mama Melrose, offered a chance to meet the jolly old elf himself - or rather, his cuddly counterpart, Santa Duffy. The encounter left gMagicScott with a warm, fuzzy feeling that rivaled even the coziest of Christmas sweaters.

For the grand finale of his Jollywood adventure, gMagicScott made his way through Commissary Lane to catch the last performance of “Glisten!” This new addition to the 2024 lineup promised a unique blend of singing and ice figure skating. The special non-melting “ice” stage, while compact, added an element of wonder to the performance. However, our discerning critic couldn’t help but notice that the vocal talents, while far from subpar, didn’t quite reach the heights of the live bands at Tip Top Club or the Jazzy Holidays performers. The constrained “ice” surface also limited the skaters’ ability to truly showcase their skills. In retrospect, gMagicScott mused that future visits might be better served by catching a song or two in passing, rather than dedicating time to the full set.

The Grand Finale: A Vlogger’s Paradise

As Jollywood Nights drew to a close, gMagicScott found himself amidst a sea of vloggers and influencers. Familiar faces like Sage, Breedlove, and Emma from All Ears; Rob from Ear Scouts; Nate aka Paging Mr. Morrow; JoJo from JoJo’s World; Tom from WDWNT; and Meg from Magic with Meg stood out in the crowd. But the sheer number of unfamiliar content creators sparked our hero’s imagination…

:musical_notes::musical_note: Who’s this? Who’s this?
There’s cameras everywhere
Who’s this?
There’s vloggers in the air
Who’s this?
I can’t believe my eyes, I must be dreaming
Wake up, Scott, this isn’t fair
Who’s this?

Who’s this? Who’s this?
There’s something very wrong
Who’s this?
There’s people with a song
Who’s this?
The streets are lined with little creators laughing
Everybody seems so happy, have I possibly gone daffy?
Who is this?

There’s influencers taking selfies
Instead of throwing heads
They’re busy building YouTube empires
And absolutely no one’s dead
There’s frost on every window
Oh, I can’t believe my eyes
And in my bones I feel the warmth
That’s coming from inside…
:musical_notes:

With a parting gift of champagne-flavored marshmallows in hand, gMagicScott made his weary way to the rideshare pickup, his feet protesting each step but his heart full of holiday cheer.

And so, dear Liners, we conclude another magical chapter in gMagicScott’s epic Disney saga. Will the champagne marshmallows prove a worthy finale to this festive adventure? Will our hero’s feet recover in time for his next Disney escapade? Tune in next time for more thrilling tales from the most magical place on Earth! :christmas_tree::clapper_board::sparkles:

Looks like you had a nice time! Last year people sid that the Brown Derby should’ve played more Christmas songs. Did they add more to this year’s setlist or just more generic Disney?

I had that chicken waffle last year and liked it! Sorry it wasn’t made well for you. These snack items are always inconsistent!

I wanted to met Duffy last year, but the character lines were the longest of anything going on that night!

Did you do any rides??

That’s all they played when I went.

It was probably a 70/30 or 80/20 split Christmas to not.

It would be great if Disney could fix the consistency problem

Between being an hour late, plus the hour spent in Brown Derby, I didn’t want to devote any time to something I could do on a regular day ticket. I didn’t make it back into Galaxy’s Edge or Toy Story, but the rides I saw were walk on. I heard one report of Rock’n skipping the pre-show as well

The Epic Tale of gMagicScott’s Pilgrimage to the Bubble - Part 15: A Bittersweet Farewell

The Morning After: A Struggle of Epic Proportions

As the first rays of sunlight crept through the curtains, our intrepid hero, gMagicScott, found himself in a battle worthy of Hercules himself. The previous day’s 20,000+ step adventure through Animal Kingdom and Jollywood Nights had left its mark, and the 1:50 AM Lyft drop-off certainly didn’t help matters. But lo! A Liner Meet loomed on the horizon, spurring our weary traveler into action.

The Great Hotel Exodus

With the precision of a Disney Imagineer and the speed of Dash from The Incredibles, gMagicScott tackled the Herculean task of packing. Disney merch and conference schwag threatened to overflow his luggage, but through sheer willpower (and perhaps a touch of pixie dust), everything found its place. Bags safely stowed with Bell Services, our hero hailed a Lyft chariot, setting course for Disney’s Yacht Club and his awaiting breakfast companion.

A Yacht Club Rendezvous

Approaching the guard shack at Yacht Club, a moment of panic seized our hero - would he be granted entry without his name on the reservation? But fear not, dear readers, for the guard’s trust in gMagicScott’s word proved as strong as Rapunzel’s hair, and entry was swiftly granted.

Inside, gMagicScott’s eyes lit up at the sight of @stlouie, his breakfast companion. They were promptly seated at Ale & Compass, ready to embark on a culinary adventure.

The Breakfast of Champions (Or At Least, Tired Disney Enthusiasts)

Our hero’s breakfast selections included:

  • Blackberry-Orange Spritz: A light and refreshing beverage that, while pleasant, seemed out of place alongside the heartier breakfast fare. 2 stars.
  • Peru Alto Mayo Protected Forest Coffee: Despite the fancy name and press pot presentation, this brew failed to distinguish itself from the standard Joffrey’s blend. The extra effort didn’t justify the result. 2 stars.
  • Crab Cake Benedict: A dish of highs and lows. The crab cake and hollandaise sauce shone brightly, but were let down by slightly overcooked eggs and over-salted, partially burnt hash browns. A respectable 3 stars overall.

While the food may have been hit-or-miss, the company was undoubtedly 5-star material. As @stlouie eloquently put it:

A Tale of Two Parks: The Great Hopping Adventure

With farewells exchanged, gMagicScott embarked on a whirlwind park-hopping adventure. A quick jaunt to Hollywood Studios via Friendship boat satisfied his park reservation requirements, followed by a scenic Skyliner ride to Epcot’s International Gateway. Our hero had now completed the Disney transportation bingo card for this trip!

An Unexpected Family Reunion

In a twist worthy of a Disney movie, gMagicScott discovered that two sets of cousins were also vacationing in the World. Seizing the opportunity, he met up with cousin Susan, her husband Sam, and son Lucas at Via Napoli in Epcot’s Italy pavilion.

The Capricciosa Pizza proved to be a revelation, earning a perfect 5-star rating and even surprising our hero with olives he didn’t hate. A Limoncello Mule provided a zesty 4-star accompaniment to the meal.

The Final Food Booth Foray

With his cousins off to guard the galaxy, gMagicScott embarked on one last culinary tour of Epcot’s food booths:

As he navigated the crowded pathways of World Showcase, our hero couldn’t help but feel the bittersweet pangs of a Disney adventure drawing to a close.

The Last Hurrah

With time ticking away, gMagicScott savored his final moments in the park:

  • A quick browse through Port of Entry and Disney Traders, eyeing a dress print he wished was available as a shirt
  • A Super Zoom PhotoPass shot in front of Spaceship Earth
  • One last Shakin’ Jamaican cold brew from Joffrey’s, accompanied by a chance encounter with Brad, the conference organizer

And so, dear Liners, we leave our valiant gMagicScott at the threshold of the rideshare lot, his heart full of memories and his taste buds tingling from a final tour of Epcot’s culinary delights. As he prepares to bid farewell to the magical world of Disney, we can’t help but wonder: What adventures await in the next chapter of gMagicScott’s Disney saga? Will the Capricciosa Pizza haunt his dreams? And most importantly, will he ever find that elusive shirt with the dress print? Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion of “The Epic Tale of gMagicScott’s Pilgrimage to the Bubble”! :castle::airplane::pizza:

The Epic Tale of gMagicScott’s Pilgrimage to the Bubble - Part 16: The Homeward Bound Adventure

The Final Countdown: A Race Against Time (and Phone Battery)

As our intrepid hero gMagicScott bid farewell to the magical world of Disney, he found himself in a race against the clock worthy of Cinderella herself. With his trusty phone newly charged and at the ready (after a 45-minute power nap in his bag), he planted himself on a bench in the rideshare lot, summoning a chariot fit for a Disney prince - a Lyft XL, no less!

The Great Lyft Debate: To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade?

In a moment of indecision that would rival Hamlet’s soliloquy, gMagicScott found himself torn between the standard 40-minute wait and the tempting siren call of a Black SUV upgrade. As the countdown timer ticked away like the ominous clock in “Peter Pan,” our hero made a leap of faith that would make even Buzz Lightyear proud. With a tap of his finger, he secured the upgrade, shaving a precious 30 minutes off his waiting time.

The Great Luggage Retrieval: A Pit Stop Adventure

At 4:02 PM, our hero’s chariot arrived, whisking him away on a whirlwind tour of Orlando. First stop: the Florida Hotel & Conference Center, where his luggage awaited like treasure in the Cave of Wonders. As the bellhop fetched his belongings, gMagicScott’s driver seized the opportunity for a restroom break - a reminder that even in the most magical of tales, nature calls for all.

The MCO Odyssey: A Journey of Epic Proportions

Arriving at MCO at 4:44 PM, our hero faced his first post-Disney challenge: the dreaded bag check. But lo! The curbside check-in, with its lone waiting traveler, beckoned like a FastPass to adventure. For a mere tip, gMagicScott bypassed the crowds, proving once again that Disney savvy extends far beyond the park gates.

As he bid farewell to his noble Lyft driver, gMagicScott couldn’t help but wince at the final tally: $117.88, not including tip. A princely sum that had our hero wondering if he should have consulted the legendary Orlando Transportation by Mike for a pre-scheduled chariot.

The Terminal Time Warp: When Disney Magic Fades

Inside the terminal, the lack of Christmas cheer reminded our hero that the real world doesn’t always sparkle with Disney magic.

But fate, much like a mischievous Disney villain, had one more plot twist in store - a flight delay that pushed departure from 8:05 PM to 9:06 PM. Ever the optimist, gMagicScott seized this gift of time to explore the terminal, venturing beyond the famed Sleeping Man sculpture like Magellan circumnavigating the globe.

The TSA Gauntlet: A Test of Patience and Precision

Armed with a stopwatch and the determination of Mulan facing the Huns, gMagicScott tackled the TSA line. His final time of 39 minutes and 22 seconds (19:32 for ID check, 19:49 for screening) would have made even the most efficient Disney cast member proud. One can only imagine the FastPass+ system that could revolutionize airport security!

The Last Supper: Airport Edition

Though his appetite had been sated by Epcot’s culinary delights, our hero wisely chose to fortify himself for the journey ahead. Villa Italian’s pizza and stromboli, while a mere shadow of Via Napoli’s offerings, earned a respectable 2 stars - the best one can hope for in the realm of airport dining. Like a true Disney veteran, gMagicScott knew that hunger, much like a villain’s curse, can strike when least expected.

The Flight Home: Dreams of Disney at 30,000 Feet

As Southwest flight 3379 finally took to the skies at 9:13 PM, gMagicScott found himself in row 10, port side window - a vantage point that would make even Peter Pan jealous. As the plane soared through the night sky, our hero drifted into dreams filled with Disney magic, pixie dust, and perhaps a few too many Dole Whips.

The Pittsburgh Touchdown: A Rude Awakening

Landing in Pittsburgh at 11:07 PM, gMagicScott emerged from his Disney-induced slumber to find his phone buzzing more frantically than Tinker Bell after a double espresso. A digital chorus of conference friends sharing memories flooded his notifications, though the elusive video of his Animal Kingdom parade with Chip and Dale remained as mythical as the Yeti’s movement on Expedition Everest.

The Baggage Claim Ballet: A Test of Civility

Pittsburgh’s baggage claim, while slightly more civilized than Orlando’s luggage free-for-all, still required the nimble footwork of a Disney parade performer. With bags in hand, our hero ventured into the chilly Pittsburgh night, awaiting the shuttle to the parking garage with the patience of Eeyore on a gloomy day.

The Great Car Hunt: A Memory Challenge

As gMagicScott stood in the vast expanse of the parking garage, a moment of panic seized him. Where, oh where, had he left his trusty steed? But then, like a bolt of lightning from Zeus himself, the memory struck - the sacred numbers “S28” echoed in his mind, a callback to the parking wisdom imparted in Part 3 of our epic tale. With renewed purpose, our hero navigated the concrete labyrinth, finally reuniting with his vehicle.

The Final Leg: A Midnight Drive of Epic Proportions

With a quick phone call home to request the porch light be illuminated (a beacon of hope in the dark night), gMagicScott embarked on the final stretch of his journey at 12:30 AM. Each mile became a battle against fatigue, with our hero channeling the focus of Merida aiming her bow. Even a close encounter with some unfortunate roadkill couldn’t dampen his spirits - though it did require maneuvering skills worthy of a Tomorrowland Speedway champion.

Home Sweet Home: The Adventure Ends… For Now

At last, at 1:45 AM, gMagicScott crossed the threshold of his home, the porch light a welcoming glow that rivaled the shimmer of Cinderella Castle. Though work loomed a mere 5 hours and 15 minutes away (a turnaround time that would make even the Mad Hatter’s head spin), our hero’s dreams were filled with the wonders of his Disney adventure and the tantalizing promise of a return on November 29th.

Countdown to next Disney trip

And so, dear Liners, we conclude the epic tale of gMagicScott’s pilgrimage to the Disney Bubble. Though our hero has returned to the real world, the magic of Disney lives on in his heart (and in his luggage, packed with souvenirs and, quite possibly, a few stowaway Mickey-shaped confetti pieces). Until the next adventure, may your FastPasses be plentiful, your Mickey bars never melt, and your Disney dreams be ever magical! :castle::sparkles::roller_coaster:

I’ve had this issue too. I almost got stranded after Jollywood Nights at 2am when drivers kept “turning down” my pick-up. I had to pay for the upgrade to get anyone to come out that late. It wasn’t much more $$, but those drivers want every penny to make it worth their time to go off-site. They can do multiple pick-ups and make more by staying on property

Glad you got home safe. I saw your post when you got home as I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t believe you got home at 3am and were going to work in a few hours!!

Is anyone else really annoyed by the fact that @gMagicScott looks so damned happy in all of his photos? Doesn’t he know there are people in the world who haven’t seen the sun in about a month and have to wait another three weeks before they’re back in Orlando?

I’m having to remind myself that just because it’s 60°F - 70°F (15°C - 20°C) and “fall” in Tennessee doesn’t mean that it’s not still an OVEN in Florida!

I’m trying to plan a trip and not overdo it with the heat!
