I haven’t seen any discussion of this in these parts today … maybe I missed it?
My take so far is that the technology is impressive and it’s really cool, but doesn’t look or sound quite like Walt. But I trust Scott’s take that it’s still worth seeing and maybe in person the imperfections won’t be so apparent. With time I bet they could get this even better.
I saw a video where they put the original video/audio side-by-side with the animontronic. Walt’s face is longer and thinner than the animontronic and it’s quite obvious even without seeing the video next to it. I think the main problem people have is they’ve hit the uncanny valley with the animontronic.
Have you ever paid attention to the guys in Hall of Presidents? Comparatively speaking, this one’s looks are dead on.

I think the answer will be clear when you (people) see it. Are you a blubbering mess after (like I will be)? Because then it’s done it’s job well.

I saw an image in a different headline and my first thought was also that this looks nothing like Walt. But this one does! Maybe it depends on the angle.

Definitely. Some angles / clips I’ve seen look more convincing than others.
Honestly I’m really excited to see it. When it was first announced I instantly knew I would love it.
I watched a clip from the preview. That thing looks zero like Walt to me. But the voiceover was actual clips of him so if it doesn’t sound like him that indicates poor sound system or a bad recording?
I am excited to see something new but I do feel like they should have been able to nail the face better. My hubby was sad at first, “Lincoln show is great, why would they replace it? That looks nothing like Walt,” he said as he walked thru the room as I watching the youtube clip. I told him after a year they will rotate it with the abe show and that the stage rotates and he was happy with that. Something new and keep the old thing he likes.

I think he looks like the boss from 9 to 5
When my daughter and I first saw it we both laughed so hard. I think it looks horrible. Actually scary when he opens his eyes wider.
This will have a VQ and we’ll be skipping it.
The face is a bit chubby, but I think from a distance it will be fine.
So on the day I want to do this I don’t plan to get to the park till around 4pm (it closes at 12am and I’m mostly there for nighttime entertainment ahem WJ) so I’m wondering if I get in the VQ at 7am but I don’t make my time will they let me in later like they did with WDW attractions with VQ or I’m going to be forced to do this on my day with the kids who this isn’t going to be their fave thing.
