Myers-Briggs

According to the poll, 70% of those who responded are introverted IN/IF and very few are ES types. Makes sense.

There could be a lot of ES liners out there but they probably would skip a topic like this…(?) lol

The second paragraph maybe is because ISFP personalities, being introspective feelers, understand and are touched by artistic expressions? Maybe you don’t have to be good at arts necessarily…?

Since ISFP uses Fi (introverted feeling) as dominant function, this would be very true for you:

Fi concentrates its gaze on the self or the “subject.” This is why it is often described as “subjective.”

If Fi involves an inner intensity of feeling or attention to feelings, (…) Although there a certainly myriad things that can impact Fi emotions, FPs seem particularly affected by children (especially their own), animals, music, novels, injustices, and the sick and needy. They seem particularly moved by those who can’t help themselves—those with special needs, the disabled, impoverished, and, of course, children and animals. All of these things, be they good or bad, can invigorate Fi and are consequently perceived as meaningful to FP types.

Also true for other types that have Fi in the first or second position

I hadn’t seen the cognitive function chart before. Very interesting. Explains a lot of the competing values discussions over in the Covid thread.

It’s fascinating! Even more interesting is understanding shadow functions (the opposite of your primary functions). They manifest in times of stress in a negative way, so it helps to be aware of them.

The most destructive is the 8th function, called “devilish” or “demon”

For me, it’s Se (extravertes sensing), which makes me incredibly prone to binge eating/emotional eating in times of stress

For someone with a dominant Fe, it looks like the 8th function would be Te (opposite of Ti)

Is this true for you?

Copied:

How Demon Extraverted Thinking Can Show Up During Strenuous Times:

During times of extreme vulnerability or stress, EFJs may suddenly take on their demon in order to “fix” the situation they’re in. When this happens they frenetically try to organize their lives, cleaning, directing, giving orders, and suppressing their growing feelings of vulnerability. They quickly notice incompetence in others and may seem more irritable and directive than usual, projecting their own feelings of incompetence onto others around them.

Oh, yeah. When we’re under a time crunch to pack for a trip, I suddenly get the urge to clean the luggage closet or whatever. :joy::joy::joy:

But it more frequently manifests as the need to binge and organize information. If I am in control of all the info about a situation…

That’s a really good point. I cry at ever single broadway show I’ve seen bc I just can’t handle the magnitude of talent.

The results don’t surprise me all that much. I’m an INTJ, which is only 2% of the population and the most rare type. But on this (acknowledged unscientific) poll, it’s the most common here at 17%. I can definitely see how touring plans appeal to us INTJ’s with strategic thinking. The history and design of TP’s fascinates me to no end

It’s so true, that’s why it’s important to listen and try to accept an opinion before reacting negatively!

I love enneagram. I can definitely see that you value peace and harmony and don’t normally want conflict. The 8 wing is there when you fight for justice and the principles you are vocal about, and the 1 wing comes out in some of your planning details and preferences with WDW and DCL that need to be perfect.

I’m late to this game, but ISTP and for enneagram I waver between healthy and unhealthy 5w4, which means lots of inner conflict about logical vs creative and how to deal with my own and others’ feelings.

Don’t just take it from me. Renowned personality psychologists have mostly rounded on MBTI as any sort of predictive instrument. Robert Hogan probably said it best in his 2007 book Personality and the Fate of Organizations : “Most personality psychologists regard the MBTI as little more than an elaborate Chinese fortune cookie …”.

Agreed. These can be useful tools for willing participants to understand more about their own tendencies and potentially how to interact more productively with other types on a general level, but not something I’d force on people at the workplace.

There are sometimes (maybe often) exceptions and nuances to what tests say about who would be a good fit for what. More than one way to skin a… :zipper_mouth_face:.
