Although I am a seasoned UOR visitor, I haven’t been since Epic arrived… so I am hoping all you pros can help me answer a few questions
Me (41) and my daughter (16) are staying onsite at the Terra Luna from 8/19-8/26/26 (I know… I am JUST barely missing HHN, but I did that on purpose - we are wimps and scare easily).
Now that Epic has 8 am early entry, does anyone have advice on meeting Toothless? I was planning on Rope Dropping this, but if he doesn’t come out until 10 AM… seems like that isn’t a good idea anymore. Maybe I’m wrong and he comes out earlier now that Epic has early entry?
Volcano Bay Nights - I got tickets for 8/20/26. Does anyone know if the free refillable cups they give you are eligible for purchasing additional day refills at the parks? I assume so, but I know a few years back VB cups did not work in parks…
Volcano Bay Nights - Any recommendations on where we should find a seat? Considering it is a lower capacity, is right in front of the wave pool a good spot (seems like that is central to a lot of the characters and interactive things they offer)? We are rapid river fans, so typically we sit over there…
Epic Universe - I plan on spending almost all of my evenings here, as I hear it is better at night. Thoughts on rides/lands/experiences to do for rope drop?
Epic Universe - any suggestions on when to do the Super Mario Brother’s power up band experiences? I hear it gets wild during the daytime with all the kiddos.
Darkmoor is best at night, and so is Celestial Park. I didn’t ride any rides at Epic, but definitely would wait to ride anything in Darkmoor until evening.
Sorta, you can do the monsters unchained anytime since it’s indoors but the first time you visit this land should be after dark and you should def see the house after dark. It has a whole other vibe and only ride werewolf at night. Makes it sooo much better. All the roller coasters are better at night as is the carousel. Do the shows and indoor rides during the day, wands and Nintendo bands. But see all the lands at night too. We did the bands on Christmas day and there were lines but they moved fast. We did them during the day no problem. Nothing was more than a 15/20 min wait tops and most of them 5-10. I think even playing Bowser Jr was posted at 25/30 but was more like 20/25.
We had two days and we basically flipped it and reversed it (I quote Missy whenever I can). We did two lands during the day one day and the other two at night (First day we did Nintendo and Dragons during day and Wizards and Monsters at night), then we flipped the order the next day. So we got daytime and nighttime rides on all the coasters. Similar with Celestial Park. We rode the coaster at nigtht first day on the way to HP and in the day on day 2.
I’m going right after you! Unfortunately I don’t think we will get very much night time due to how late sunset is. I’m assuming 90 minutes max of darker skies. Sounds like you will get lots of night time opportunities.
It’s really hard to figure out how to spend that dark time - Darkmoor, Nintendo, or SD Racers. We’ve been once before in winter during a bit of a terrible week for Epic so we’re excited to visit it again. Nintendo is much more bearable at night. We found the daytime to be too intense and hot. Night time was quite mellow and pretty. You should have much shorter lines for the games. Yoshi’s at sunset golden hour is pretty. We really disliked DK but that was our personal preference - I don’t like jerky rides. Still, it’s very pretty at night. We were able to ride MK Bowsers easily in the early evening. I like Darkmoor a lot but would not prioritize Werewolf at night. Ride’s too short and not themed enough to matter. The area is great though. Berk was pretty and fun at night. Hiccups is fun at night and worth doing.
I’d double check on the expected opening time. We rope dropped the Toothless M&G last month and he came out at 9am just as the EPA crowd arrived - so I would not exclude that the experience is open during early entry? Berk is lovely in the early morning and we found that both Dragon Racers Ralley and Hiccups are easily walk ons in the first 30 minutes or so.
I agree with those who have said that all lands are better at night, so really you can’t go wrong with any of them! I’d base it on your personal priorities. For us, this was Wizarding World and my fondest memories of Epic are the hours we spent there after dusk and sunset, when it’s cooler and quieter. But I suspect I’d say the same about NW if I were a Nintendo fan, etc.
Hmm. I can’t find anything definitive online because the opening hours and EPA offerings have changed so much this year. Seems most things are outdated. Let us know if Toothless is EPA please when you go!
Also as darkmite2 notes, I have seen some reviews that it’s mellow in the last 2 hours of the night. For us, I know we won’t want to use that limited night hours waiting for Toothless.
Thank you for this suggestion! I can’t wait to see the burning blades at night
We do have express for all of our park days, so I am hoping that makes a difference in being able to ride more of these outdoor attractions later in the day. YAY!
Thank you so much for this information - this is exactly what I was wondering, if the band lines were too crazy. I appreciate your input on this. Gives me a little hope in being able to make it to Bowser’s Challenge by the end of the trip!
Thank you for this information. I am going to try to take your advice and snag the seats next to the Volcano As this will keep me close to the entertainment, but also close to the Rapid River entrance… YAY!
Regarding the cups, I did call and ask about this three different times (as I have trust issues haha) and the cast members all said that VB cups can be reactivated the next day to work in the parks. So this is a great free gift that is offered for VB Nights for those who purchase the refillable cups for their entire stay. I’ll update you once I’m there to confirm it is true!
I could be totally wrong on this. The app doesn’t update his meet times, so I have no idea. Every video I’ve watched from vloggers shows it opens at 10, however those videos were done pre-early entry at Epic. I read a trip report from an amazing TP member that went and RD this (I think after early entry started) and it appeared he came out at 9? I’ll try it and see what happens, then update everyone on what I find out. I’ll be trying this on 8/20/26 - I’ll try to tag you in the answer
This is awesome! I’m going to try to RD it. Did you rope drop toothless then go to Dragon Racers and Hiccups right after (you mentioned easy walk ons in the first 30 minutes, unsure if you meant 30 minutes of EE or 30 mins of park opening)?
Yes, we started with Toothless M&G during early park entry. Looking at my photo time stamps, we were done with that at 9.08 (we were the second family in line), after which we walked over to Dragon Racer’s Ralley (which was a walk-on with both sides open). We rode that once, then headed over to Hiccups and rode that twice in a row as a walk-on. Here’s my detailed trip report (with link to our Epic day). This was on a CL5 day.
Super excited to follow your trip and see your trip report. No HHN for us. I was curious about it but my 13 yo - who loves Stranger Things and It - has very clearly said no way to HHN.
Happy trip day! FYI I have seen posted wait times and maybe verified (internet is not super reliable) that SD and the carousel are staying open later now that Celestial Goodnight is at 9:30. So it may be that you can hop on either of those between 9 and 9:30 before the show.
