Must-do at Disney Springs?

Is it even being called Disney Springs yet?? Anyway, I have not been to the place formerly known as DTD for several years, but we are planning at least one evening there in September. We have reservations for The Boathouse (sad that Morimoto’s is not going to be open yet). We will not have time for any of the big things like bowling, a movie, or Disney Quest. What I am looking for our recommendations on any other must-do or must-see shops or other things to check out that maybe weren’t there before. Also, are the construction walls still a big issue?

  • we are staying at POFQ so we will take the boat.

It’s not too terrible with the construction still going on.

I like to hit up the Christmas shoppe, Lego Store and The Co-op. Prepare to spend in the CO-op.LOL Lots of wonderful things in there!

World of Disney (though be careful, like a Las Vegas casino you can lose all track of time in there!) and sundaes at Ghirardhelli.

You got that right!, plus it is really a cool place to explore.

All three things above are must-do’s for me and my family! We also always go to Earl of Sandwich, but I see you are already eating!

I’m looking forward to the new and (hopefully) improved margarita bar, too!

Also, I’m DYING to see the new HANGAR bar that’s going up. I hope it’s done by the time I get there in November.

Has anyone tried the little boat cars? What are those like?

I hope it’s done when I’m there in late Sept, but I doubt it.

My list for shopping at DTD: basin, days of Christmas, pin trader, mickey’s pantry, co-op, shop for Ireland, world of Disney and vivoli il gelateria. But we will only have two hours until they close early at 11pm.

So, after exploring the menu at The Boathouse and then learning that it is a 2 credit meal, I decided to cancel that and do Raglan Road instead! Based on your recs, I will be doing the co-op and Lego store for sure, and maybe gelato if we go a second time and don’t get a meal.

Raglan Road is a must do for me. Disney Days of Christmas and the kitchen store are my other two favorites. Also love Art of Disney for all of the cool stuff I can’t afford.

There are a variety of amphicars and they look so neat! Different prices for different types of cars, I believe. I can’t recall exactly what the prices were, but I remember they struck me as a bit spendy…

Yes, I looked into it after posting here. The amphicars are a flat $125 which gives up to three adult or two adults and two small children 20 minutes of cruising around with a captain doing the driving. The price definitely rules it out for this trip for me. There are two other boat options, as well. One is a Venetian-style water taxi that accommodates up to 20 people that is something like $75 per adult (not sure how long) and like $50 per kid; or a more private boat for $150 per couple. All pricey for my budget on this trip, but the couple’s ride is something I’d probably look at for a future trip as a fun date night adventure.

We did an amphicar “swim” yesterday and it was fun, but not really worth the expense. My Engineer DH was really interested and the boat captain was able to answer all of his questions. The amphicars are all antiques and according to the captain there are only 200 left in the world. They let the four of us squeeze into a car, but it was a very tight fit and there was a 10% annual pass discount. They took a ton of pictures and I was very pleased to find out the pictures were included with memory maker.

So there were 4 of you plus the driver? We had thought it would be unique to do but thought only 4 total - including driver. Do you mind sharing the cost? I thought I had read $125 or $150 but could never find it again.

It was $113 with the annual pass discount. It is normally $125. It is supposed to only be for 3 passengers, but they let us have 4. I don’t think that is always the case. It was about 20 minutes. The coolest part was going in the water, after that it was like any other boat ride. It was a fun experience and I was very happy with the photos, but I wouldn’t do it again.
