Hi everyone. Just saw that the opening date is may 26 (another reason to be kinda frustrated about the timing of our may 6-10 trip)! I read that they may do special openings for cast members, etc.
Historically, is there any evidence from other big ride openings/reopenings that there might be soft openings during our stay for us regular folks? This is a favorite of my son and his GF, and it is really a downer they won’t get to ride it this trip. I certainly don’t want to give them any false hope, but it would be nice for me to know if there is any chance of getting on it during our visit.
There is always a chance. Soft openings happen. But by no means would I plan for it. Just be pleasantly surprised if it happens. The only ones who know are Disney, and they don’t tend to reveal that kind of information ahead of time.
Traditionally, if there is a soft opening, it is only for CMs, DVC owners and/or APs. They tend to get an email in advance if it is offered and how to attend.
If you aren’t any of those 3 categories of guest then your chances of getting to do a preview, if available, is zero. Sorry!
I think it is highly unlikely that it will be open at all that early. Apparently they will do CM, AP, and DVC previews, which will likely start in early to mid-May. At best, they will be doing CM previews during that window.
There is a chance they will soft open before May 26th for everyone, depending on the dates of the previews. They usually build in some amount of buffer, and from my understanding, the ride system has not changed, so it’s entirely possible it will be ready earlier than expected.
Keep an eye on what happens for BTMRR leading up to May 3 ( ). For Buzz, they didn’t do any special previews that I remember, and they soft opened (for anyone) starting around Mar 30/31, so over a week before official opening.
That was kind of a surprise, so BTMRR may give some evidence as to whether it was a Buzz one-off.
