It is very pretty and I do love FOP so that’s the only reason I’m at least intrigued about what they will bring to DCA. But as the park is right now, the concept doesn’t fit at all anything in the park or the surroundings.
Unless…
If they did this that would fit the theme of the surrounding area very well. And I could also get behind that & did wonder if they would do something like that for the area. But also, there isn’t much else keeping that theme there really. A couple of exteriors of buildings (Carthay Circle at the start and then the theater at the end).
Sadly, AK went from my favorite park to the park I can skip.
Part of its favored status was DH and I had gone to Kenya and Tanzania on our honeymoon and I liked the feel of AK. Also, it had so many kid-friendly attractions when mine were little.
The problem is the park felt stagnant for so long. Then they finally make changes and Avatarland is so uninspiring to me.
We will go to AK for the morning one day of our November trip. And I definitely will visit after they open the new section & update Zootopia.
I think the Avatar movies are just ok - worth seeing once, but not something I will revisit. But that said, the best part about them is the world-building. Visiting Pandora at AK and going on the two rides there is so magical and awe-inspiring. It’s Disney at its best - attention to detail, immersive storytelling, grand scope and scale, etc.
It’s a little jarring how they have hacked up DCA into these little mini-lands that have little if any cohesion with each other, but I’ve come to peace with that and just enjoy it for what it is. Cars Land, Avengers Campus, Grizzly Peak, and Pixar Pier are some of my favorite lands. Why are they in the same park as each other? But it doesn’t bother me.
I’ve had to come to peace with it too. It bothered me most when we lost Soarin’ over California AND Tower of Terror AND then just behind it the Pier.
The new Guardians and the Pixar Pier are both some of the best things about DCA now so it’s been overall a good choice. But before I knew that, I was so so so mad they were taking all the California out of the park. So mad.
And we didn’t lose the Cali Soarin’ completely since they’ve been bringing it back for Food & Wine. So all’s well that ends well.
To me - this would make sense for someone who loves the movies. But as someone who doesn’t know anything about Harry Potter, I liked the rides, but was wholly unmoved by the immersion. It was just *there”.
The Star Wars immersion works for me bc I enjoyed those movies.
Having no interest in Avatar makes the land just there.
Have just ridden Monsters once on my lone trip out there, but have another booked, so it will be nice to say goodbye to it properly. Loved this ride, as we adore the 2 movies. There’s always the HS addition coming though.
Not sure about Avatar. Initially liked the first movie and initially loved AK Pandora, but both have become a bit boring for me and not sure about it in DCA, if it’s really needed on both coasts or popular enough. Much more excited for Avengers Campus expansion and to a lesser extent, Coco.
