Monitoring Chemical Incident

Is anyone following this? Thoughts?

‘Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm safety teams are monitoring a hazmat crisis at a Garden Grove aerospace plant involving a malfunctioning chemical tank threatening to explode and release a toxic cloud.’

Following this for sure

Mainly concerned for everyone’s safety of course

Concerned on a personal level as we have a DLR stay in about a month

However, they are currently using a high school in Anaheim as one of the many shelter sites. So that is reassuring.

DLR is monitoring closely to safeguard guest safety

Yes, hoping it stays under control and everyone is able to return home quickly.

So scary! We’ve been watching closely. My daughter and I just left Disneyland Thursday. We wanted to return next week but who knows now. Im not sure if the Amtrak track is anywhere near this. Im following along on this Reddit link.

I checked in with @Julianne_fki, who is at Disneyland right now with her daughter! She said Disney has been mum about the whole thing and if it weren’t for social media, she wouldn’t have even known about the incident! They even went forward with fireworks tonight!

Honestly I don’t think there is significant danger beyond the evacuation zone, and even that is probably somewhat conservative. Of course I could be wrong and maybe my trust is misplaced. But even a dangerous chemical, when sufficiently diluted over a wide area, does not pose a significant threat to health.

At first this surprised me, but then I thought, how would they even address this, except possibly in the hotels.

I mean, maybe the chemicals aren’t flammable…

This is truly what I am hoping. I have tried to find some info outside of MSM (I am not on social media anymore, so it’s a little harder).

I mean - there is always that. But what else do we have?

So - this causes me pause (see above). So many chemical spills seem to not be that big a deal until later.

Truth be told, there isn’t much any of us can do about it. I have just been praying for those working closest to the facility and containment, and for those needing to make decisions. That is a heavily populated area. I’m hoping all the best decisions are made and actions are taken. Is school done yet in SoCal?

The stop for the Chief is actually Fullerton, couple miles north of Anaheim and 5 miles from DL.

I have been surprised that some of the Disney news sites that I follow haven’t said anything. They are so quick to report on other things. I’m sure they don’t want people to panic.

They’ve lifted the majority of the evacuation zone.

It’s funny because Carly was convinced she could smell something in the air and thought her throat was sore because of it! In any event, I’m glad the situation is looking better. I can’t imagine living near that site!

There are several reports of people having sore throats, etc. And they are saying that the crack has relieved the pressure. So to me, doesn’t that mean that some air at least escaped? But, I have read about the air quality reports and they have like 20 independent monitors. So I do believe that the air is normal and they are not detecting it. It’s hard not to attach what one is feeling to the reason that seems most obvious.

Well I have never thought CA was known for “high air quality” to begin with!

The air pollution reputation is well earned, especially in downtown LA, but OC specifically usually has very nice, clean air. Probably thanks to the coastal wind patterns.

It’s very possible people are having hypochondriacal reactions. Hopefully they will continue to monitor air quality and be transparent about findings. It’s easy to lose trust in those in charge in situations like this.

I think that it is fortunate that CA has decent leadership.
