Copying some of your comments here from Reedy Creek since my comment isn’t about that subject and the jokes thread seemed appropriate

You said, it is amazing to me that you could work towards one set of rules for decades and someone has the ability to pull the carpet out once you earn them.

This is exactly what Congress did with respect to the health care promises made to military folk who began service before 1955.

Some retired WW2 guys managed to get a lawsuit all the way to the Supreme Court - in the 1990s if memory serves. That august body - different court - agreed that Congress did indeed make promises but the SC had no way to hold Congress to their promises other than to urge them to do so.

As I typed it I was definitely thinking it’s a joke on someone.

Wish it were Congress somehow. Check out what one of Douglas MacArthur’s first duties was - removing the tent city of veterans asking for promised benefits.

The people in the US are generally great humans. Politicians - generally speaking - need to take notes.
