I can see how people might think that gives you some insurance. With Uber or Lyft it can be a gamble as to whether a driver is talkative or plays music on demand but mostly it is very positive! Likewise we had mostly positive experiences with cast members in the parks but we also had a few negative experiences.
I’ve never had a bad time with a Lyft. I use them all the time, and rarely use Minnie Vans due to the extreme difference in cost.
That said I do think it provides a bit of guarantee with a Disney hired driver for a good guest experience and a driver who is at least knowledgeable about the area in most cases.
I think it’s nice that there are both options available so that people can do what they are more comfortable with

A Minnie Van ride for us from the poly to AK was $38 + $6 tip = $42 dollars for a 10 minute ride!! Suffice it to say we only used it once!
