Magic shots..no ask?

Good morning! I was watching or reading something recently that mentioned Cast Members do not like it when you ask for a Magic Shots!! Does anyone know if this is not acceptable to ask if you have bought memory maker? Ive never received magic shot but a couple of times …maybe three times and it’s only when I asked if they did those. On my next visit I dont want to ask if its not ok to do so!

There’s no harm in politely asking if they can do any magic shots, they do list locations in MDE though.

This was just on a YouTube video my wife watched.

What strikes me about this is that we generally have the opposite problem…the CMs seem insistent about doing magic shots, and we really don’t care at all about them. When we ask if they can skip them, they generally say that they have a script (my word, not theirs) to follow. So I can see that asking either way is a problem for them. They have to “override” what is asked of them.

I have never, not once, had a CM seem even slightly off-put by my asking. Most initiate it on their own. It is 100% acceptable to ask!

I’m curious who is saying this, if you don’t mind sharing?

Would agree! Not sure I see it as a “problem” but it doesn’t matter to me most of the time one way or the other. Sometimes I just want a quick photo and want to move on but we take a hundred including magic shots at the photog’s request

I feel like this was a thing MANY many years ago that the magic shots were more secret and were supposed to be pixie dusted out and it was sort of an unspoken no-no to ask. But now with the price of Memory Maker and the way they advertise the seasonal or special event magic shots you BETTER be asking and getting as many as you freaking can. Now most also offer if they have them.

The most annoying magic shot issue I ever had was when we tried to recreate an old magic shot with Tinkerbell and the CM added Remy instead :woman_facepalming:

Interesting! Maybe it is a quota they need to meet during their shift and my timing is off.

Thank you. :+1:

Thank you. We are the quiet and polite family to a fault at times! My last trip a few years back we hardly had any photopass pictures so I want to try and change that this time around!

Honestly the photographers usually do them without asking, it’s no trouble to them.

Jeez. Remy vs Tinkerbell! smh. I need to be sure to stop and get photos done and want to ask for a little extra magic this time around.

I would definitely look online and see what kinds of shots you want and make it a point to find them!

This article has a couple of our favorites, the balloons and the confetti! They have different seasonal ones but are usually near the castle.

Thank you soo much! Ive seen the balloon photo before and always loved that. I never knew how to go about doung that one. I am going to check out this link and make notes to check if these will be available. Im determined to finally be in lots of photos instead of just taking them myself.

I actually didn’t know this! Does it show exactly which shots the spot can offer? @cn123 maybe this will be more helpful!

No, just the location. I’ve never actually used the feature so I don’t know if it’s 100% accurate.

Yes, this was my impression one time.

I’d still ask though! Just be prepared for some resistance. Next time I might add a “if that’s ok with you” to my “could we do magic shots?”.

Disney PhotoPass has a Facebook page where you can find the latest Magic Shots: Disney PhotoPass Service.

The photographers don’t know whether or not you have bought MM!

Ask away! You have paid dearly for it!

I consider myself the queen of Magic Shots! Last year, when I was on Annual Pass, I was at WDW for 62 days! Every single time I had my picture taken, I get a Magic Shot. If I didn’t feel like I got one, I asked at the end. If I got tired of blowing snow or leaves or other Magic Shots, I asked at the beginning what Magic Shots they have and then requested a specific one. I have never had a CM give me an attitude over me asking for Magic Shots! Though I may have had a couple of grumpy, uninterested in their jobs photographers! And some photographers are way better than others!

Don’t hesitate to split into different group combinations either! Beware of photoboxes! Always have some taken on your own phone at those venues! Have fun!

Exactly. I hate when YouTubers make “a thing” out of this stuff. Worrying guests unnecessarily.

I’m firmly in the “it’s ok to ask” camp too. Sometimes, you stop for the photo specifically because you’re interested in the magic shot. Why not verify whether the photog can give you what you’re after? Disney promotes these magic shots and tells you where you can get them because they want to sell their photos!

I ask sometimes if I care, and I’ve never had any pushback from the CM. Now that’s not to say I always ended up with the magic shot I hoped for. But that’s a different problem!
