Hi, having just got back from an amazing time in Orlando, thanks to all the great advice that’s shared on this forum, I would really appreciate tips for our LA trip next year.
We’ve got three nights before we fly on to our next stop. I looked at Disney and Universal, and Universal is winning on price and location. The Tar Pits is a must do, and I’d love to also have time for the Natural History Museum.
We’d rather not rent a car for a short stay, but I’m not sure if this is feasible. I’m currently thinking we should get a hotel in walking distance of Universal and uber to the other places. Is there a better option? Perhaps somewhere that has good public transport available to get to these other sites?
The last time I was in LA, we stayed at the Lowes Hollywood hotel. The hotel is great and the staff are fantastic. Hollywood itself is a bit of a scene, but this location may work well for you. We loved seeing a movie at the Chinese theatre - there are original costumes, it is beautiful and historic!
It is no more than a 15 min trip to: Universal, Griffin Observatory (though that may be hard to get an Uber to and from), the LA Zoo, the Tar pits, and Warner Bros studios that does a great tour. The only thing not close was Sony Studios - we went there to see a taping of Jeopardy- which was awesome.
That sounds great, thank you. I will look it up
Fair warning, it is very similar to staying in Times Square, the area is busy, touristy, and dirty, but the scene is part of why you are there!
I have a friend who recently stayed at the Hilton across the street from Universal and thought it was great for getting to the park. Getting everywhere else is a bit of a nightmare, no matter where you stay.
I’ve stayed at the Loewe’s and really liked it! It’s good if you plan to see the Chinese theater, walk of fame, etc.
I recommend a rental car if you want to go to the beach or to Disney, but for short jaunts to locations within Hollywood, you’ll probably find it easier to use Uber.
100% agree with this.
