We will be on our first Disney cruise this December on the Fantasy.

Huzzah! So glad you took the plunge!
I only know Port Canaveral as embarkation/debarkation port but my experience with it is itās a well-oiled machine, especially for the lines that have home bases there. I feel like doing anything in Orlando would be just a little too far for me to feel comfortable doing a day excursion there unless arranged through the cruise line but the KSC is right there and would be well worth an excursion!

The itinerary says youāre there only from noon to 8 pm, so itās not like youāre getting an early start on the day. KSC is only open until 5 or 6 pm (hours not yet listed for April), youād be able to spend the afternoon there. DH and I spent 9 hours there when we went, and wish we had more.

Just found out our friends who joined us for our Allure of the Seas cruise last March will be joining us for our Freedom of the Seas cruise in 2026! Thatāll be fun!

Ya I think KSC is the leading contender at the moment. It will need to be a short visit but it is what it is. I toyed with a visit to Disney Springs but it seems far. DS9 would hope for a quickie day at Epcot to ride GotG!

Thatās me every time Iām in Orlando too so I canāt say I blame him. If the cruise has transportation that can get you to and from then quite possibly I would entertain it. But if not maaaaybe but I would also leave Epcot by 4-5pm to make sure sure sure we were back to Port Canaveral in time.

We donāt have annual passes so this is NOT happening for 3 hours of park time!

I do not blame you one bit! Maybe if we went back to pricing from 5-7 years ago I could maybe swallow that cost. But then again, Iāve always looked at one day tickets as an egregious cost (compared to the cost for 3-5+ days) so prob not. 
KSC would be very fun, even if the time would be limited. I would probably avoid going as far as Orlando though, for sure. But I donāt really know what there is to do closer to Port Canaveral that isnāt KSC after it would close.

Yesterday & today DH & I both found out our amounts for our yearly bonus that will be paid out end of Feb. By some very good fortune, itās more than we were expecting.
So naturally we started looking at throwing it at some cruising & thanks to the Disney+ subscriber deal now have a hold for 2 rooms on the Dream for a 4 Night Bahamian sailing May 1-5. It only misses 2 days of school for the kids & no (at least not known right now) important extra-curricular or shows/end of year celebrations. 
I do think we will let the hold expire because it will be absolutely insane to fly out that much for our whole family, but once we have a placeholder (a discount you apply to use for a future sailing by putting down a deposit while onboard a current sailing) from our cruise in a couple of weeks, we will revisit this craziness.
This does tempt a lot of fate as the last day to book the Disney+ discount is the day we disembark so weāre rolling the dice a bit, but if we donāt go through with it, it just means we can still look for 2026 stuff which were initially planning to be more lean due to the oh so much fun this year.

My travel agent suggested we try out the pier at Cocoa Beach which actually looks neat. I need to research what there is to do at KSC. I donāt know if DS6 is old enough? But he is pretty interested in science.

Oh yeah, I have heard of this, just forgot it was so close to Port Canaveral. That would be a good couple of hours to supplement (or replace if you wonāt be spending the whole day in port) KSC.

I am curiousā¦has anyone here used Gigsky as an alternative to paying for ship wifi? I keep hearing about it from vloggers, but the reviews in the Android Play Store are mixed.

We booked a 7 day Alaskan Cruise in the Wonder for 08/10/2026!
After our budget (military discount) cruises this winter this is not that but my bucket list cruise. We did get to use a placeholder though. Canāt wait!
