Leading Reservations for dining?

Yes this. I guess this is how it is now. Leading reservations can still be used on the same account but only until your real reservation takes over. I was able to get 10 of my 12 days done so you can still get an advantage for anything less than 10days.

Ah ha! Ok, that is unexpected then.

I wonder if something changed? I thought people were successfully doing this previously? Anyone reading that used this technique in the last few months successfully?

To recap, we’re looking for split stays with an overlapping leading reservation booked on the same account, and being able to book ADRs past the first actual stay at +10 (or if it consistently failing at that point so a different account would need to be used). Is that an accurate description @galuchies_463555 ?

Yup

So, for those who had splits, if my DD has her own MDE, but we are ā€œfriendsā€, should I make my leading with her account, or will it still cause issues? She is also on my real reservations.
I have another old MDE account, but the last time I used it for ADRs, I kept getting locked out like it knew I was ā€œcheatingā€.

I would remove her from your hotel reservations, book the leading reservation with her as the only guest, make your ADRs using her account, cancel the leading reservation once the full window has passed, add her back to your real hotel reservations.

Awesome, thank you for the help!

And removing or adding a person to your hotel reservation can be done online. So, no need to wait four hours on hold.

I just want to double check here - I made a leading reservation under a separate MDE account. (I didn’t want to take a chance having two overlapping reservations on my real account and possibly have one end up being canceled by Disney.)

What I’m wondering is this - will I be able to just leave all of my dining reservations on the fake account once I’ve canceled that hotel reservation? I can’t see why not but just wanted to be sure there isn’t something I’m not thinking about?

Yes you should be able to. Dining reservations are their own thing and (other than booking window) are not dependent on tickets or hotel stays, because obviously people eat at Disney restaurants all the time without going in the parks or staying onsite. (You don’t even need admission to book a theme park restaurant ADR, though of course you need admission to use it.)

ETA: I’ve never used a fake MDE account to book ADRs. I’ve always had the leading reservation on my actual MDE account with no issues.

Wouldn’t it be easier though to have the fake you make reservations for the real you? That is what I did. That way I can use my real MDE account to check-in.

Yeah you can just link your dining reservation to your actual MDE account using the confirmation numbers.

I didn’t even have to do that. I just made the real me the lead person on the ADR.

Oh I see so your fake MDE was linked to your real MDE as a friend / family. That works.

Yes, I did make the real me the lead name on the adr’s.

So… just to clarify, as long as the leading reservation covers all of the dates of the actual trip, it should work, right?

I made a leading reservation for 7/1 to 7/11, and I plan on making ADRs for 7/6 to 7/11. Will that work?

Wouldn’t 6/26 - 7/11 be the leading reservation dates? That way on 4/27 you could make reservations for 7/6.

I thought you could only make reservations for up to 10 days, so I didn’t make it longer than a 10 day fake trip.

Yes, you can only make reservations for 60+10, but you want to have the reservation start a full 10 days before you first ADR, so you get the full 10 day advantage for that first ADR. Then you make reservations one day ah a time, using the full advantage.

Basically, you want to have 60+10 days for each ADR.

But I only want to wake up early and have the stress of making these reservations once! Is that a terrible strategy?

It depends how much you want them. :woman_shrugging:

And it actually made it a lot less stressful for me. I didn’t even get up early with having the full 60+10.

I just got up normal time and made one day of ADRs each day.

The availability at 9am or whatever on 60+10 will be better than super early on any day thereafter.

(You would want to get up super early for any days you are making any near-impossible ADRs.)
