I was wondering what suggestions you folks might have for a large group all trying to dine together for a special meal. I am planning a trip for the in-laws 50th and there will be about 20 people in total. Now most meals there is no way to all eat together, mostly for peoples sanity. But i am looking to plan one evening for a special dinner for everyone. I am thinking either in a resort or Disney Springs. The ideas that first come to mind are California Grill or Art Smith. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is calling DS restaurants like Art Smith directly, and request a room/space. We have had success with very large parties at Terralina Italian.
You can also call special events planning on WDW. They can do a catered dinner in a hotel evevtvdiace at YC/BC, CR, CSR, etc.
