We’re stopping in at DL for 2 full days in mid-July. I’m looking at the crowd calendar and it shows 5 for Saturday 19th, 4 for Sunday 20th and 7s for Mon and Tuesday. Why is less on the weekends? That seem counter-intuitive to me.
I can move our trip a day or 2 either way but I’m wondering if our experience will be significantly different going Sat/Sun or Sun/Mon.
FYI, we are not morning folks and will not being doing rope drop but will easily stay in the park until the bitter end. We are all adults and don’t feel the need to do every single ride the mx number of times, but we also don’t want to stand in hours more lines than we need to.
Thanks!
We visited DLR for three days at the beginning of July 2024 and decided to head to the parks from Saturday to Monday after similarly reading that crowds are lower over weekends than weekdays. I believe that part of the reason for this is that Annual Passholders are blocked from visiting during many summer weekends - and since DLR is a local’s park, that can make a big difference. We definitely thought the parks felt much busier on Monday during our visit, with longer lines not just at rope drop, but also during the day.
Another counterintuitive trend we observed is that the park with the Early Entry benefit is usually the less crowded one until park hopping starts at 11am. I believe this is because the number of people with access to the EE benefit (those staying in one of the three Disney hotels) is relatively small compared to the number of offsite guests - and most of these will head to the non-EE park because they don’t want to be behind the EE crowd. We were offsite guests, but found the EE parks to be pretty quiet until around noon (park hopping starts at 11am) - in DLR, we worked our way through most Fantasyland during the first hour of park opening, and in DCA we did the same on Pixar Pier.
Have a great trip!
