January quick trip considerations

DW and I are going to take DS14 to Universal over MLK weekend. Haven’t been to Epic yet so mostly want to focus on that. A few things:

  • We have lots of Hyatt points so likely are going to stay at Hyatt House across from CityWalk. We usually stay on property but it’ll save close to $900…losing EE stings but seems worth it. Anyone stay there or want to talk me out of off-property? We’ll just use the shuttle/Lyft as it’ll be long park focused days.
  • If going for three days and wanting to mostly focus on Epic, is the best three day ticket option park-to-park for all three parks?
  • Express passes don’t look like they’re on sale on Universal’s site but there are express passes available on Undercover Tourist. That seem legit?

More questions/thoughts to come!

I would say that either Express Pass or Early Entry is essential to successfully tackling Epic. With three days and Express Passes, you should easily accomplish everything and repeat favorites.

Yes. I would recommend comparing tickets on Undercover Tourist, UK Attractions, and UOR website. But 3-park 3-day will give you the most bang for your buck having 3-day express passes. You will get one ride on each ride in all three parks, every day.

Yes these are legit and it’s how I bought mine for my June trip. It’s possible they are available on UOR’s website but you are encountering a glitch. Half the time when I got to UOR’s website I can only see one month in advance. But visiting later or from a different browser, or calling, I can see the later dates. I would compare prices from different resellers.

Thanks Jeff. Really good thoughts. After seeing the Epic Nights last night with no lines, I would love to see one of our nights be that in January! I wonder if they’ll add more Epic Nights in January. Sounds like they’d probably want more people to come to make it worth it.

It is a great option, but no big deal if it doesn’t happen. Did you see my solo trip from a couple of weeks ago? I was able to accomplish all rides I wanted to (8 out of 11) plus two shows in Epic in one morning from 9a-2pm without EP. Obviously I had many advantages being a solo traveler and perhaps the CL 4 day I was there might be less crowded than your dates, but any of that should be more than overcome by you having EP and multiple days.

Awesome you got to do a solo trip. I haven’t been on the forum the last few months so I’ll go find it. Your reports are always great, cute kiddos or just great legs.

What a great day you had at Epic. And what a great time you’re having in San Diego!

Our hotel off site is booked for mid January 2027. Waiting on flights (but tracking) and haven’t bought park tickets yet.

Can save about $150 if buying 3 day park2park tix via UT instead of thru Universal.

Do park tickets increase in price as you get closer to the date? I know EP get more expensive but wondered about park tickets.

Also, any word if Epic Nights are expected in 2027? Would be very interested if so! @josephmatt

Only if there is a discrete price increase, which happens once or twice a year. But it isn’t a dynamic increase like EP. I’m not sure when UOR increases prices typically.

Thanks. I vaguely remember that now. A quick search says it’s been inconsistent lately when Universal has increased prices. I’ll be paying attention for sure!

I think when they go up, third party sites often have some inventory at the lower level. Will be curious if they extend the Epic nights into 2027.

Correct. I will often buy from Undercover Tourist. Of course their pre-price raise prices are better, even with the old inventory. So it’s worth buying early if you can swing it. But opportunity cost is different for everyone.
