A while back, I found out that my coworker (the only one I consider an actual friend) not only has never taken her two children to WDW, but she’s never even been there (or UO) at any point in her life! This was obviously heartbreaking to learn, and I told her that when the time came, I’d help her plan the perfect trip.
Well, I’ve gotten it into my head to help her finances along by crowdsourcing this. At first I just thought about starting a collection amongst our coworkers. But this is a literal mom & pop operation; we’re in the single digits, and I’ve calculated it will take over three grand to fully fund the trip (round it up to 4k). That’s a lot to ask.
So what I want to know is, has anyone ever tried using an actual crowd funding app to pay for a vacation? And if you have, what can you tell me are to do’s and don’ts?
I have not. But I have seen some on FB for families to take their kids on “once in a lifetime” trips.
Another things I have seen is people raffling or selling items (at a higher valuation than normal) to put towards their trip. A lot of the items were homemade. I’ve even seen kids (and 1 dog) painting.
This is a really nice thing you are doing! Maybe you can get a business to match contributions or do a benefit. I think when the family is involved and offering something or have an extenuating circumstance, people are more likely to donate to the cause.
That is key. Frankly, I don’t think many people will give to a fund my vacation but if there is more involved like someone is sick people will be more likely.
I don’t think you are! And it’s a good cause. Not everyone is fortunate enough to afford Disney. And as long as you’re upfront and honest with your request, everyone is free to donate or not.
Someone else recently was having problems. There was an update over the weekend but I can quote fine.
If you start out quoting, rather than replying (on a phone), then it should work. But there is an issue now that once you start creating or replying to a post, you can’t get back to the text of that post to quote from. Is that what you’re referring to? (I created a thread to report/discuss glitches in the updated forum software.)
I can with the arrow at the top right. But it minimizes the entire text box. So I can quote but then have to scroll down in the text box to see what I’m typing if it is a continuation and not a new text box.
But previously if you hit Reply, there was a speech bubble in the list of options at the top of the comments box, which automatically put the post you are reply g to in the box.
Now I have a different icon instead. It’s making threads impossible for me to follow. And also I can’t see who to tag in the reply.
@len , is this an intended change? It’s very annoying.
Well, to be honest, and I don’t want this story spiral into a huge argument, her husband was visiting family in Central America last year and was denied re-entry into the country. So she’s basically been a single mom for nearly a year (her mother helps) and a good chunk of her savings went to hiring an immigration lawyer. I thought it could make a great homecoming present, whenever that happens
Praying for your friend and her family to be reunited soon. This would be a nice reunion trip. I could see how this could cause a little controversy in todays climate. If your funding request went public, I would probably not emphasis that. People LOVE to jump in the comments section and publicize controversy. I’ve seen some Go Fund Me campaigns go off the rails.
If you click the little “M” with a down arrow in the upper left corner of the dialogue box, it goes back to Rich Text format and is very similar to the old way, albeit with a couple buttons in different places. I think the new design is meant to be easier for new users to pick up, because you don’t have to do any coding.
The look will still be the “new” design, but the functionality will be the same as the old way. You have to click on the “+” to see the Quote whole post option, which is no longer the first button on the left.
