We have older kids and won’t be swimming. We want a nice water view and good transportation access.

I just ran this from the room finder and it seems to me that the possibilities are too varied to make it worth it, IMO. You might get a room close to the Skyliner but you might not. 50 / 50 shot. But I suppose it’s a better shot than if you do standard.

It’s a add on money maker for Disney. I had been getting rooms in the 60’s because it was close to the Skyliner for the last 4 years. My last trip I was told that I could no longer get standard rooms in the 60’s. All rooms are now preferred in the 60’s. Disney figured if they are close to the Skyliner they can get more money. I am referring to the 60’s at Pop Century.

I’ve had great rooms in 44 and 45 of Jamaica as standard rooms for three years in a row. This year I was initially assigned a room in Trinidad early in the morning after we arrived but went to the front desk and told them we’d be willing to wait for a room in Jamaica and got building 44. Those standard rooms in Jamaica are convenient to the skyliner and the main building at CBR.
With the preferred rooms, I would only want to be in Aruba close to the Riviera for their food and the Skyliner or Jamaica for the closeness to the Skyliner. Both of those used to be standard rooms. My next trip I did book a preferred room but preferred was the only room type I could get with the Bounceback offer for my dates. We are hoping for Aruba as we are only going to Epcot and planning on spending time on the rooftop of Topolinos and at Bar Riva. My TA put in the that request for us.
