My wife and I booked a short 3-night vacation for next August (simultaneously coinciding with our actual anniversary, but also so that we can ride Soarin’ Across America.
I am booked on points at SSR for now. 42 points. But we would like to try, at 7 months, to switch to OKW, which is only 33 points. It isn’t JUST to save points, although that is a primary motivator. It is also to try out OKW, since we’ve never stayed there and this might be a good opportunity.
My question, though is at 7 months…I know that if I have to add a waitlist, I can tell it to replace the SSR reservation if it comes through. What I can’t remember, though, is how you handle it if there IS availability already. Would I cancel SSR, and then book OKW? Or would I attempt to book OKW, and the system will still ask me if I want to replace the SSR reservation as it would for a waitlist?
The only tricky part is if there is only partial availability. Then you are in the weird scenario where you can’t really modify your stay because it is half waitlist, half “book now”. You could modify to the available days, but you risk the waitlist not coming through. Not really an issue for OKW in August, but it could be an issue for other stays.
Honestly, we are fine with SSR. But we WOULD like to try as many of the resorts as possible, and this just seems like a good chance to get OKW while at the same time minimizing the number of points we are using. (This trip was a rather rash decision, so trying to have minimal impact on point usage.)
