I booked the Wish 9/30

So - here is a pre-trip brain dump.
Questions at the bottom - @lolabear_la @NoCapes @ThorKat @OBNurseNH @gingerSnaps543222 @Trampslady_18966 @PrincipalTinker

I am having some issues

First - I went to print off old Navigators so the kids/DH could look at that. My printer is out of ink. Of course it is! Thankfully, Amazon is supposed to deliver some today (stay away storms).

Second - oh my gosh - my outfits for the trip are NOT coming together. In part, this is because I broke my foot and I lost five weeks of shopping and thrifting, etc. My outfits plans are as follows:
1923 - a Minnie Mouse Disneybound. The red and white polka dot dress of my daughters’ did not fit. I can squeeze into it, but it isn’t flattering nor comfortable. I ordered a dress from Amazon, but it is too high waisted for my long self. I ordered a skirt. It is also too tight. Like - incredibly tight. I ordered two more skirts that were supposed to be here today (when I hit check out). Then they changed to Saturday and now say SUNDAY! (I leave Sunday after church.) So - I now ordred two MORE skirts that should be here tomorrow. (I will believe it when I see it.) I will have a LOT of returns when I get back. :stuck_out_tongue: I really hope they come and one fits!
Marvel - we are wearing black “tactical” type or agent type clothes. Super simple. Black head to toe and aviator glasses. I had to order pants multiple times, as well; they were too short.
Pirate night - I am actually in good shape for this as I am going in a different direction and will just own it as a Captain or something…
Arendelle - I was planning to dress up dressy as the girls are wearing princess dresses. But - have I mentioned the broken foot. I planned to wear the dress I wore to my son’s wedding, but it needs heels so that is off as an option. I am leaning toward dressing as Maleficent if it is Hallowe’en night. DD dressed as her a few years ago and I have what I need. Taking that as a back up. If not I am just wearing cruise casual and say screw it.

I am very sad that I couldn’t get shopping and own this a little better. I spent a full two weeks in shock and then since then I have been Amazon-ing everything for my girls to put together outfits. It definitely cost more than it should have. I have a carbon insert for my shoes however it barely fits into any shoes. I may carry the “cute” picture shoes in a drawstring bag and slip them on for photos.

Now for excursions. I am currently booked for the Blue Lagoon for Nassau day, but I think I am going to have to cancel it. Going to Wal•Mart last night exhausted me. The pain in the foot and the awkward stance of not bending my foot makes it weird and tiring. I think there is going to be so much walking on the ship as it is that I probably shouldn’t do back to back port activities.
Of course I want to concentrate on Castaway Cay day. I hope we can stay busy on the ship (I mean - if I am going more slowly that will take time in and of itself.)

I’m also feeling frustrated about other things, but I will move on to my questions.

Questions -
When and where do I inquire about reservations for the Star Wars lounge? Is this adults only?

Normally when I go on a cruise, as we walk up to the port, we hand off our luggage curbside and enter the building, but I thought I read in someone’s report (but I can’t find where) that the poster said they had a chance to see their rotation before they surrendered their luggage, so I don’t know what to expect. Do we hand off luggage before entering the port building?

Normally you get your “keys” at your stateroom when you are allowed to access them. Is that the case for Wish? I thought that was the dining rotation was listed on the keys.

If we want to make any dining rotation requests, do we make those after embarking? I really would like Marvel, Arendelle, Arendelle, 1923 or 1923, Arendelle, Arendelle, Marvel. I didn’t care until I didn’t have anything to wear to Arendelle except costumes. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have zero touring plans for my (now) two ship days. Do we need to request paper Navigators? Do we have to go somewhere to get paper Navigators?

If I want to text my Android DH from my iPhone do we need to both have the DCL app? Can we use the DCL app or can we use another messaging app, like Signal? Would we need both devices to be on their own platform? Should I convince him to bring his work iPhone so we can iMessage?

Phew… TIA!

You can do it as soon as you board. And only at certain times it’s adults only.

Do we hand off luggage before entering the port building?

Yes

Per my recollection, yes and yes to the dining rotation.

If we want to make any dining rotation requests, do we make those after embarking?

I’ve never made changes, but I’d imagine you can also do this as soon as the customer service area opens. If you are concierge, you can call and do it over the phone beforehand. This I can confirm and have done in the past, requesting a certain rotation order. So if you can do it for concierge, I’m sure there is a way for other guests just not sure of that process. Sorry.

Do we need to request paper Navigators? Do we have to go somewhere to get paper Navigators?

The phone app works great. But I don’t know if they even do these anymore. On my last two cruises no paper navigators but I didn’t ask for any.

If I want to text my Android DH from my iPhone do we need to both have the DCL app? Can we use the DCL app or can we use another messaging app, like Signal? Would we need both devices to be on their own platform? Should I convince him to bring his work iPhone so we can iMessage?

We all have iPhones and iMessage does decently well on the Wish so it’s a good option. In the past, when the kids were littler we used the DCL App chat feature and it worked too.

You no longer need a reservation. No age limit. There was a sign that said if it was busy you could be limited to 45 minutes.

Sorry you foot is getting in the way of planning for all the outfits you wanted. I hear you 1000 times over on :arrow_heading_down:

Everytime I think, oh we’ll just be able to use “such and such” and modify by adding “this and that” and it’s never just a cheap pull together & the amount of Amazon money we spend the 2 weeks to 2 days before we leave is always so so so so so much more than I thought.

No longer needed! It’s adults only after 9pm. And opened most days by 12pm. Embarkation day may have been slightly later. If you find recent paper navigators those will list hours!

Yes, that’s still the case. It’s just if in the time you’re pulling up to the curb you can get the port wifi connected and make your app come alive and get a quick glance at your dinner rotation, you can reshuffle & grab that night’s outfits fairly quickly. But it’s a big if that you’ll have time to do that, let alone be able to from outside the building. IMO it adds a stressor when most likely, you’ll get your luggage before dinner. Especially if you avoided packing anything that looks like a prohibited item (basically anything with a plug) in the same case as all the dinner outfits.

Yes this is the case.

That died with the pandemic. We’ve never had our dining rotation on ours. It’s exclusively in the app now.

In the app they will have a listing under Activities for “Dining Requests” or “Dining Team”, go to the location at the time it’s listed to make requests for both dining rotations and adult dining. There will be 2 separate lines for those things, so make sure you know which line you want to get into. On the Wish in February it was from 12:30-3 inside the lower level of Luna on Deck 4 just forward of the atrium area. You’ll want to go on the earlier end when they have the most wiggle room to be able to move you around. And to accommodate, depending on how the table sizes are working with the sizes of dining parties, they may put you with another party at a bigger table.

I’ve never done it because I forget the times I’ve been in the Guest Services line for other things. But Guest Services would be the place for you to ask. They may try to direct you to check the app because everything is listed there & if there’s changes to anything the app will be the most up to date. But you can absolutely still get the paper by asking at Guest Services. The one big bonus to going through the app is you can heart the things you want notifications for & if you’re phone is connected to ship wi-fi (or your paid wi-fi connection stays decent) wherever you wander on the ship) you’ll get notifications 15 min before any hearted events.

YES make sure he downloads it before you leave. My DBIL did not have it on his Android and it was a pain for him and DSIL to figure out how to communicate and finally on Day 2 my DH had him buy the cheapest Wi-fi package just to be able to download it since the free wi-fi could not handle any app downloads.

You can both use the DCL app. I’m not sure about other message apps on Androids. I know that iMessages and WhatsApp both work on iPhones on a cruise. I do know that my immediate family of all iPhones, we could have one device connected to the paid Wi-Fi, send a photo, & then the receiving device could take the internet to then be able to download the sent photo. So I’m imagining you could “take” the internet back & forth from each other to be able to message but that would require some coordination. No matter what, I would have him download the DCL Navigator before you get to the port & then he could either have another app like Signal downloaded or bring the work iPhone as back-up modes if the app just isn’t playing nice for messaging.

Thank you for such quick replies @gingerSnaps543222 @ThorKat @lolabear_la

I am so happy about Hyperspace lounge.

I’m glad y’all say the app works great. I was thinking my girls would want to circle things on paper. Etc.

Screen shot the dining info @lolabear_la Thank you. Our PAT is 1:00 so we will barely have time to eat but I will make dining requests the priority.

It sounds like DH just needs to bring the work iPhone for messaging.

Same girl. Same. How can you not when you’re doing on a Disney cruise???

We always make shirts and I thought we’d have some hand me downs for girls to wear. Nope. Too small. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

These aren’t that special. But they will make nice photos.

You heart them in the app and then it will even give you a warning that the thing you’re interested is approaching. Super neat!

They don’t have devices though.
I’ll for sure use it for my phone.

I’m getting eager again. It’s been up and down for this trip.

I see your questions were answered, bit I did not see if anyone mentioned that your dining rotation will be available on the app as soon as you get into the terminal and on the wifi.

Thank you Friend!
I’m stressing about some little details now. This storm has me distracted from packing too.

I think your questions are already answered. A couple of thoughts in case they weren’t already mentioned (it’s 4:40 am here so apologies if I duplicate something someone already covered).
-We found the DCL app ok for texting but occasionally there were delays so you would already be back with the person and then they received the message you sent 10 minutes ago.
-I wouldn’t worry too much about not having your time planned out in advance. I’m a pre-planner but I didn’t find it too bad to get up each day and have a quick scroll through that day’s navigator and flag the priority items. Then we could find things to do or relax in between.
-I asked everyone what they were most looking forward to and tried to check off those things first as we never get to everything eg soft serve for DD, movie in the theater, something from the sweet shop…

I hope you have a wonderful trip!
