I am curious if anyone has tried any so-called hybrid shorts, which act as a cross between actual shorts as well as swimwear. If so, how did you like them, and what brand?
I have been toying with the idea of getting some which I can wear to the parks, but also to Typhoon Lagoon and/or the pools without needing to change into a swimsuit.
I like the idea, but wasn’t sure about some that I have seen which have, for example, metal pocket zippers. I don’t THINK I would use any waterslides, but wouldn’t want to be precluded from doing so should I change my mind.
DH has a pair of Coleman shorts that he absolutely loves for a hybrid. I found that many full nylon shorts have this feature. Since I can’t find these Coleman shorts anymore, I have gotten him 3 pairs from Amazon. He strictly uses these at swim shorts now. They do have that little zipper but I think it is plastic? I can check for sure when I get home and report back.
Based on the picture, it looks like they have a metal zipper, but with a zipper pull extension.
Also, those don’t appear to be intended for swimming. More about water resistance, and no built-in liner.
The ones I was looking at look like normal shorts (similar to the look of these), but can operate as a full-fledged swim-suit as well.
There was a brand called birddogs I saw advertised. Pricepoint is a little high, but shows what I’m talking about:
I’m just not sure, though. Might not be worth the bother. Just thought it could be nice for packing purposes to have shorts that operating as swimswear (and, I supposed, underwear!) and not have to pack as much.
I got my son a pair from Fair Harbor and they’re great — really well made, I like the cut of them, they dry very fast, and I’m told they’re very comfortable. I stumbled on those at a consignment shop, but would definitely consider getting my husband a pair, especially if on sale.
No built in liner. That’s what DH likes about them. We’ve always had to cut them out of traditional swim trunks.
Looks nice! The polyester will hold a more structured shape.
Not swimming, but are intended to be quick dry when wet. We originally got them for fishing. They dried so well, DH decided to try them out in Mexico. He loved how light weight and comfortable they were. Some swim shorts get uncomfortable when walking around in the oppressive heat.
