We’re going to DL on a Thursday and rope drop. I need recommendations for a hotel to stay the night before so we can make it to rope drop.
We managed rope drop as often as we wanted from the Castle Inn and Suites on S. Harbor Blvd. Any hotel in that area (south of I-5 and north of W. Katella) is an EASY walk to be there to RD.
I’m not a rope dropper. But when we go to DL I plan to try to stay in my home time zone sleep schedule and ROCK rope drop, lol. I wake at 3:30am DL time.
As long as you are walking distance to the pedestrian entrance or even if you arrive early enough to any of the parking lots you can make it to rope drop.
If you want to be competitive at being towards the front of the entry gates, onsite will be your best bet as they open the security checkpoints that serve the onsite hotels just a few minutes before they open the ones that service the parking and pedestrian entrance.
But if onsite costs are not in your budget, the hotels right across from the pedestrian entrances are the closest proximity to the park entrances and they usually open the security ~7am so if you line up just a few minutes before 7am you should be in great position to still be competitive.
We like the Park Vue Inn directly across the street. But there are a variety of decent hotels at good prices. I usually start up by the Howard Johnson Anaheim and go down the row of Harbor hotels finding the one with the best rate & value for our stay. We often are choosing between Grand Legacy at the Park, The Anaheim Hotel & Park Vue. But we’ve stayed at & enjoyed the Tropicana, Camelot, Castle Inn & Suites.
