Hotel Animal policy

Recently I was reading the new 2026 Unofficial Guide to WDW. Under hotels and information about them, I read nowhere about the resorts that have Animal friendly policies. I found out the hard way when I arrived at POR to find it was pet friendly. Upon going to our room we found the room next door had barking dogs. We were able to notify CS and they did contact the owners who quite their pets down. That aside it is some information I think the new book should have had. Some are happy with this policy so they can take their pets with but others would rater stay at a resort that did not have this policy. I think those resort that do should have been noted in the New 2026 book.

There are 4 that take pets. But all can take service animals. That being said true service animals won’t bark much unless its alerting. I did think they had certain buildings that were earmarked pet friendly at POR. I’m surprised they mixed non pet people into them.

This was about 3 years ago. As far as I know the policy is still the same. They DO NOT have to be service animals. POR and the Yayat Club are two that I no of. I now stay at POP instead.

It’s in there, but not in the hotel section. If you look up “Pet accommodations” in the subject index, it cites a page in the Bare Necessities chapter, under the Services section and titled, “Pet care.” It lists the four hotels that are dog friendly. That only helps if you are hunting for that, not if anyone is trying to avoid that.

@len Can “dog friendly” be added to the hotel descriptions for POR, AoA, Yacht Club, and Ft. Wilderness? Does this need to be another thing on the room finder choices, for those hotels that limit it to certain wings/sections? TIA

Yes, I believe it is VERY important to state the resorts in that section so people looking at a particular resort will be aware of this fact. I know in reading about the resorts it is one of the main things I looked for. I was surprised not to see it stated in the Hotel accommodations section. Maybe that is just me, but I got a surprise at POR. Had I read about the policy at the time I probably would have stayed at the French Quarter which does not allow animals.

AoA studios and the campground. I thought there was another but can’t think of it’s just the campground.

This is interesting because I had no idea that there was more than a few pet friendly resorts. I assumed the campgrounds, and I thought some DVC allowed them. But I, like you, would rather NOT listen to someone else’s dog bark at any time of day. Also, I don’t like the way the rooms might smell. WDW housekeeping has not kept up the way they once did…

There is a thread all about improving the room finder app that @len is working on, you might want to find that thread and add your good idea there?

Yep. Adding this to our to-do list. I don’t think it’s hard, but looking at the hotel data I’m not sure where it is. I’ll ask David and let y’all know when it’s done.

We’ve updated the WDW Hotels pages to reflect which hotels are pet friendly. See below for an example. Thanks for the suggestion!

Len: I am glad you made this update but I think it would be more useful if it was included in the Resort Description. I know that is what I looked at expecting to find that mentioned Some obscure place in the book under a title most people would not think to look just won’t do. This is my opinion and take it for what it is worth.
