If you purchase an annual pass after making a reservation at HDDR, but before the date of the reservation, will WDW give you the discount retroactively if you call to request it? Even if the pass has not been activated?
I would not expect the AP rate to be honored if the AP has not been activated.

Whenever I’ve booked HDDR, the DVC discount wasn’t applied at booking. I got it refunded when I checked in for the dinner.
Assuming you have activated your AP by the time you go, I would have thought you would get the discount refunded in the same way. Is that not how the AP discount normally works?

I have an AP, and I just created a dummy HDDR reservation. It took off the 10 percent to make the reservation ($70 dinner became $56). Payment is required at the time of reservation, so that makes sense to me. I’m not sure how it would work between buying and activating the AP. I recall being able to make AP-discounted hotel reservations before activation, so I would expect that might work in this case as well. I think that even if it didn’t you would likely be able to get a refund for the difference by contacting guest services after activation. IMHO, it’s low risk, and I would expect you can get the discount one way or another.

I made a real booking for Hoop a few days ago. I used MDE to make the reservation. I didn’t get an AP discount on booking. I’m planning on asking about it when I actually check in.
I think you’re right, and I was just mistaken. The $56 was the subtotal before tax and gratuity. So the question of the activation point of AP persists. . . . sorry for any confusion I caused!
As stated, they will refund the discount when you check in. Had to do this in May, I forget what the reason was (I think a non-AP person in our travelling party booked the reservation?). Ask at check in and they will send you to the counter to the left of the entrance and they will take care of it.
