I will be staying at the Grand Californian. Is it better to rope drop DCA from the hotel or from the main entrance? Thank you

I prefer the hotel entrance but you have to make sure you arrive early enough to not be behind the crowd. There are a lot of people at security there in the morning and it can get backed up!
Hopefully someone who has been there more recently can give you a more definitive answer on timing.

It depends on where you want to start IMO. If you are going for Avengers Campus/Hollywoodland then the main gate is better proximity, especially since they don’t let you into the park any earlier from the hotel entrance than they do from the main entrance.
If you want to start at Grizzly Peak or Pixar Pier then the hotel entrance is closer. You definitely want to make sure that no matter which entrance you use that you go early. The hotel one backs up first but security into downtown Disney to get to the main gate can also back-up, especially as you get within 30-45 minutes before park opening.
