So, when Dh heard COP was closing down for refurb he booked a quick trip to say our goodbyes. Even though we had JUST been there in October. And November. And April. But who am I to complain? Especially when said stay will be in the Contemporary Resort, Park View!
I still really can’t believe we made the trip, as Dh booked it for the day after he returned home from a week long training school in Ohio…that he drove to and from! But he loves Disney World, COP and driving, so there you go.
We left home Monday morning, June 29, and planned to stay until July 2, when our annual passes were blocked for the holiday.
Of course it was standing on the sun hot, and since the hotel has a monorail going through it, it wasn’t as cool as I would have liked, but in all honesty by the end of the trip we had acclimated.
I do not really get why the hotel is Incredibles themed, but it was pretty cool. The closet glowed red and yellow when you open it and super suits are “hanging” inside. I didn’t open the bedside drawer until we left, but should have because it’s awesome.
We ate a late lunch in the eatery and spent the rest of the day shopping and exploring. Of course we watched the sunset and the fireworks and the Electrical Parade FROM OUR BEDROOM WINDOW!
I had made park reservations for MK but Disney made the day a “good to go” one for AP. Didn’t matter, we monorailed over to MK anyway. Rope drop crowds weren’t bad but the Passholder line was especially empty!
Do you see our celebration badges? The CM couldn’t fit the whole name of Carousel of Progress so he put COP, but he used so many Mickey shapes it was confusing. Made for fun conversation though. We walked right on to Buzz. Dh sabotaged me by turning the vehicle too randomly. Ok, no, I just suck at these games lol.
Next up was PP. The fun effects in the children’s bedrooms weren’t working and the ride stopped several times. I did get a couple good pics while the ship was still.
We had plans to return to MK but before we left our room we saw a storm in the distance. We actually watched the thing move over the area, lightening and all. We felt bad for the people stuck in the park but glad we weren’t among them. We shopped for a while but the storm was so wicked it made the lights in the hotel flicker! We figured out how to open the sliding door to the balcony, but it was soaked so we watched the fireworks from inside again.
Day two I had reserved Epcot, but it turned out to be another “good to go” day and we headed to MGM instead. The busses at the Deluxe resorts suck compared to the moderate and value (value has the best imo.). There is no dedicated spot to wait for a specific bus, just a few benches where random busses pull up and you hope it’s the one you need.
The only good thing about Deluxe resort busses is that they are the closest ones at the park depots. Number 2 verses number 3,212. So getting in and out of MGM was smooth and quick. We rope dropped MMRR and they thankfully let the line inside before actual early opening to avoid death by heat.
I love that ride so much! We had a few minutes before the first showing of Frozen Sing Along so we booked it to TSM. We got on quickly but one round was fuzzy and another just plain didn’t work so it wasn’t the most fun.
We did some shopping and headed back to the hotel for lunch at Steakhouse 71. This place is a great mix of casual but still “adult” and they brew their sweet tea…soooo good and refreshing. The NY strip was the bomb!
We had a rest but plans to return to a park were foiled once again with a monster storm. We weren’t very bothered by it, just being at our favorite place and having such a view was enough.
So our second and last full day ended yet again in a storm, so we monorail hopped to Poly and GF before settling in and watching nighttime entertainment from our balcony one more time. Don’t despair, we reserved a Chef Mickey breakfast to end our quick trip and start our journey home.
We are sorry to see COP go, along with the steam boat and Tom Sawyer Island and Dinosaur land…this is getting depressing! Staying in the Contemporary was expensive but worth it for a quick trip in summer heat. We definitely enjoyed walking more in the parks than to and from our room at a value resort. And the view of the fireworks and cute water pageant outside our window every night was truly magical.
