Gaston's Gallop: A RunDisney Trip Report (11/5-11/9/21)

Your friend’s face never seems to come out in these pics. It’s strange…

I didn’t mention to him that I’d be posting his pic all over the internet, so I’m just trying to be respect his privacy. I hope my faceless friend doesn’t creep anyone out…

I was teasing  I understood your purpose in hiding his face and I respect that!

Also, we tolerate faceless people around here just fine. We let @Heidelj stay and just look at that “face” :open_mouth:

Morning Walk-ons

After we were off 7DMT, we headed towards Splash, but decided to hop on iasw at 845a because there was literally nobody there. Since we would use LL for Splash, we weren’t concerned with getting there before the crowds. After iasw we saw that Splash was not running, so we walked onto the greatest ride of all time at 910a. We also grabbed our second LL return time: Jungle Cruise early afternoon (don’t remember the time, is there a way to see my LL history in MDE?).

For much of this trip, I didn’t take many interesting pictures. Sorry. There are a handful of good ones though. I really didn’t want to be on my phone more than necessary (darn you Genie!). So some of this is just for documenting my touring and timeline.

After HM, we went over to Frontierland to verify Splash wasn’t running and B rode BTMRR while I talked to DW on the phone (personal issue). We walked around to Adventureland and there was no wait for Pirates, so we were riding that at 945a.

We decided to save the rest of Adventureland for later when we would return for our JC LL, so we headed to Tomorrowland. Crowds were insane here for some reason, and we kept on walking to the Speedway. The green flag dropped at 1019a and I was the winner by 5 car lengths.

Buzz only had a 10 minute wait after our race so we ran over there and were in line at 1030a and off at 1040. We were talking trash the whole time about who would win. We used to be coworkers and can be very competitive. B was convinced he would dominate, but I proved him wrong. Finished up Tomorrowland with the TTA at 1044a. It had been down all morning until right when we got out of Buzz, so we were nearly first in line so we walked right on. Great timing!

Lunch and Early Afternoon

We were walking back through the hub towards CBJ at 1100a and saw the Main Street Vehicles. Apparently this was the first day they were back. So fun!

CBJ finished up at 1120a and we headed over to CHH for kids meal lunches. Terrible picture, I know. B wanted the salmon, which I can’t have due to allergies, so I ended up with chicken tenders, green beans, and rice. Didn’t need too much after the huge breakfast anyways. We ate upstairs and took our time.

Headed over to HOP at 1200p. One of my favorite attractions. There was an incredibly rude couple sitting in front of us that were texting each other and laughing. The guy next to them kept asking them to put their phones down, the light was distracting. Assholes…

Feeling the tired in our bodies, we decided to finish up the rest of the shows (except Philharmagic which was not open :sob:), and headed over to COP at 1245p (look at the crowds waiting for Laugh Floor!), and then back to Adventureland for Tiki Room at 130p. Pretty sure we got another LL selection in here somewhere but I can’t remember what or when.

Crossed over into Frontierland to get some hot chocolate, saw the Country Bears on the balcony and the most random cavalcade I’ve ever seen at 145p: Gaston, Moana, Alice, Mary Poppins, and Aladdin. What is the theme?

Finally, back over to Adventureland for our JC LL at 155p. We had the most hilarious skipper. I guess I’ve had bad luck the few times I’ve been on JC, because this was a very different experience for me. I genuinely laughed like 5-6 times. She was exceptional.

Gaston was in the back and asked the others
“Hey! Is that @NoBellePrizeWinner out there? He’s one of my biggest fans. Let’s go say hi.”
So, you see, Moana, Alice, Mary Poppins and Aladdin were just being supportive. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Late Afternoon and Dinner

After JC, we headed over to Splash which had just started running. We didn’t need to use our anytime LL because we walked right on. Going up the first lift at 210p.

After Splash, B convinced me to ride the Liberty Bell since I had never done that before. The boat had just left, so we waited a bit, saw the Chip n Dale boat cavalcade, and boarded around 300p. I actually really enjoyed the experience. The tableaus along the river were decent, but I really just liked the boat itself. I assumed it was propelled by a gas engine, but there is a real boiler so maybe it actually uses a steam engine? It could also just be venting the steam for the whistle, but that’s a lot of engineering and maintenance for an effect.

On the boat ride, I noticed the bat on the HM weather vane. I can’t remember exactly what they were now, but I started to notice other weather vanes in the area that had themed “toppers”. Cool details!

Next we used LL to ride PPF (this was the 3rd one I couldn’t remember earlier). The LL queue was backed up all the way to the carousel! We couldn’t believe it. Moved quickly though, I think we only waited like 10 minutes. We were off at 338p, heading towards Little Mermaid, hoping the line wasn’t really 40 minutes like MDE was saying.

Well, the line for Little Mermaid was all the way outside of the queue. B didn’t want to ride Pooh and I didn’t want to ride the teacups (both of which also had long lines), so we went over to Big Top Souvenirs to find a spot to sit down for a bit. At the back there are some tables and chairs and lot of extra space. There were a few groups resting there like us. Good quiet spot.

At 415p we made our way back over to Little Mermaid and the posted wait was 15 minutes, so we decided to do it. We were going under the sea at 435p. I love this ride.

At 500p we were riding BTMRR with our 4th LL, and followed that up with another Splash at 515p using our anytime LL.

We ended the day with my favorite dinner at BOG. I asked to sit in the West Wing, and they said it would be a 10-15 minute wait. Great, last time they told me it would probably be like an hour. In the West Wing, you can watch The Rose lose a petal every 10-15 minutes. When that happens, a portrait of the Prince turns into the beast for a brief moment, then turns back. It is a neat effect. We were seated at 545p and were leaving about an hour later.

I’ve now had dinner in all 3 rooms. The West Wing was the quietest by far, but also pretty dimly lit, and the Beast interaction was more minimal. The Ballroom is very loud, but there is a lot more to look at, better for families with younger kids. The third room is the Gallery and I cannot recommend it. I don’t understand this room at all, it is not from the movie, it is a gallery of B&B artwork including a large music box at the center of the room, featuring Beast and Belle dancing on top. Why not the Beast’s library or the dining room? These are iconic rooms from the movie!

I got the french onion soup and filet mignon but forgot to take pictures. The gray stuff was delicious!

After dinner we went back to the room to get things ready for the morning. We were asleep by 8ish.

I agree. The gallery is so bland and generic

I agree the Gallery is bland and generic but I liked that it was quiet and well lit, which as you noted were elements each of the other two rooms lacked one of. But it could have been quiet and well lit AND more interesting if it was a library.

I don’t see how they went with gallery over library. The library scene is like the turning point in the movie. Belle is a book worm. I just don’t get it. And yes, eating in a library is a strange concept, but so is eating in the beast’s bedroom!

Sunday November 7th (Day 3)

Wine & Dine Half Marathon

This day started pretty much the same as the day before, but without the drizzly wetness. I wore my long sleeve race shirt over my Gaston tshirt so I could shed the long sleeves once I warmed up (we also used trash bags again for the corrals). B double-bagged, and I think he was warmer than me. We were up and out the door around 3-315a, bus to TTC parking lot, waiting in Corral S1 at 415a. We were a lot closer today, only about 20 people behind the front line. Race started exactly at 500a.

Today the course had us going a back way to AK via the Poop Factory (the water treatment plant), then east on Osceola and North on World Dr to HS. From there it was mostly the same as the 10k, except we went by the Boardwalk instead of Yacht/Beach Club and went around WS. Map:

So I mis-remembered a detail here. Looking at the pictures, I was reminded that I put the gaston shirt on over the long sleeve race shirt. I thought I might keep the long sleeves for a while, maybe the whole race. I was wrong. I was a sweaty mess by mile 2 or so, and ended up taking it off around mile 4 or so at a bathroom in AK.
