I noticed on the POP group that they talked about people leaving freebees outside their rooms after departure. They state this is a common practice. Aren’t they afraid that the food items left may be tampered with? I personally would not trust anything of this nature to be safe especially for my kids. They also leave strollers and such which is highly questionable as where they came from and how safe they are. Are you willing to take this risk? Not me They can stay outside the room door as far as I am concerned. In this day and age, I trust NO one.
Totally with you on that. That’s an odd thing to do.
Totally doesn’t bug me. It’s been going on for as long as I’ve had social media.
RE water and paper products and unopened snacks: I’ve rented a few dozen rental houses all over the USA over the years and it’s a common practice. In fact, I’ve often not gotten local groceries until I see what the prior renter has left.
RE kids’ supplies: People find it cheaper to buy strollers than rent WDW ones & then leave for someone else. Others don’t want to travel with their beloved stroller. If they just threw them away people would complain that was bad for the environment. Not everyone wants to Uber to a Goodwill to donate on their way to the airport.
Good news is it’s totally optional and at least for now I have not heard WDW forbids it.
There are many different FB groups for the purpose of posting unused items being left behind on departure day. We’ve done it to give away and to pick up. I LOVE it!!! Housekeeping just throws out anything left behind so if someone can use it I’m all for sharing. If you don’t like it then don’t use it.
Once a guy approached us while waiting at our resort bus stop to ask if we wanted a case of water he had left over. YES!!! PLease!!! and Thank you! He asked our room number and they were by our door when we returned. What a blessing
. Disney ppl are the BEST, second only to the sailing community ![]()
At DVC resorts people often do this but leave them in the ice or recycling rooms.
I would only ever leave / take unopened items.
I probably wouldn’t go so far as to give a stranger offering us something my room number. (Perhaps it is from all that stranger danger talk growing up!) But I would accept unopened items. As @Nicky_S said, using the ice machine room is a good neutral ground for such “transactions”.
At DVC resorts the laundry rooms are also a great location.
Over the last 20 years there have been many “liner” items passed on. Pool noodles, strollers, and currently a small Christmas tree to name a few.
We stayed at POP last February with three young kids and if I’d known this, I would’ve walked around the halls and ice rooms a bit looking for such items. Could always use fruit and/or water and who knows what else! I don’t have a problem with this at all. Especially strollers. That’s a huge financial/logistical help
bah….. some times we have to trust our fellow humans
and sometimes not
That day we felt we could trust ![]()
As I was writing my post I was trying to remember if it was on here that the Christmas tree tradition was? Where people passed on a decorated Christmas tree to someone whose reservation followed. It went on for years. It could have been the old MouseOwners forum.
Do you remember it?
Right.
You didn’t give them your key.
It’s literally to put a pack of water on the ground outside.
People eat out even though an employee could spit on it.
People buy produce at the farmers market even though someone could inject something into it.
People buy canned goods that could be recalled.
we have been strangers in foreign lands for over two years now….. most of our fellow humans are decent & kind ppl. Although, the French are challenging us right now

oh boy, I watch the news w/ all the recalls and am amazed at the risks in the U.S. w/ food
We just walked through a lovely Saturday market in Carnon and got fresh food for lunch and the week. PLus got to practice our French and then they got to practice their English because that’s what they do ![]()
that sounds lovely! I just bought a string of lights, a poinsettia and called it good ![]()
Hey Ryan me saying ‘bah’ was me practicing my french…. not trying to be unkind. Pardon, s’il vous plait.
I remember one from years ago too. The pool noodles were a long time ago. Touring Plans “chat” (in the app) started a tree again a few years ago,
I got to use the Christmas tree in December 2025. Someone sent it from Contempo to Pop for me. I had it transferred to AKL to the next person. It was so fun!
I’ve totally given leftover water and beer/seltzer to others when we left. The couple we gave the beer to were so excited. They’d been buying from the bar. They had no idea you could have it delivered from Amazon Fresh. ![]()
I’ve picked up stuff from the ice/vending area at CBR too that others left.
I had a grocery order delivered our last trip. I think we must have eaten all the food/snacks or packed them with us when we left because I don’t remember having to do something with them. However, we only had carry-ons so could not bring the full sized sunscreen through TSA. I offered it to a family in the lobby and hung the bag on their room door handle for them.
I agree. But it isn’t the “most people” that I worry about! ![]()
But most of the people who have shelled out for a WDW vacation probably have no bandwidth left to launch a criminal activity upon checkout. And I don’t think non-resort guests are parking their cars at DS and taking buses to resorts to offer unsuspecting guests tainted products.
What may feel sus at a Motel 6 on the highway has a few built-ins to bring down the suspicion factor. (Tho I don’t have much of a suspicion factor with the rental houses either.)
