Fork 'n 70 Happiest Oogie Boogies 'n 24 Candles 'n 60 Royal Years -Trip Report

Today is the day!

  • We fly out late afternoon to my fave SoCal airport LGB where we’re renting a car with National and then heading to my aunt’s house in Orange County.
  • Tomorrow is Fork 'n Film in Hollywood for Ratatouille in the VIP booths
  • Monday afternoon DH and I will head to the Pixar Pier Hotel leaving the “kids” (DS21 and DD18) behind at aunt’s for a mini-date trip starting with a late afternoon/evening stop over in Disneyland for 70th celebrations sans LL.
  • Tuesday I’ve rented a pool pod at the Pixar Pier Hotel pool in the morning and then I’m going to get a Megara hair do at Tenaya Stone Spa for our Oogie Boogie date night.
  • Wednesday the kids will join us for a full rope drop to close DCA/DL day with LLPP
  • Thursday is my 24 year old cousins birthday celebration
  • Friday we hop aboard the Navigator of the Seas for our 3 day cruise to Ensenada to celebrate my aunt’s 60th with 20+ of her fave family and friends.
  • Saturday is her actual birthday and our Ensenada day (DD18 and DH are going fishing for their excursion and DS21 and I will be doing the blowhole kayak tour as we don’t fish)
  • Sunday is our at Sea Day
  • Monday we fly home :frowning:

I’ve booked an early dinner at Izumi (as I prefer the upcharge dining on RC cruises) on Friday but leaving us enough time to make the dinner with family too for the family/friends part.
Sunday I’ve booked a lunch at Jamie’s Italian upcharge dining and the Royal Escape Room for after lunch so maybe we’ll get along since we won’t be hangry. You should have seen us working well together but yelling at each other at the Jurassic World one in CityWalk.

Here we go! I’m so excited.

I bought my hubby a runDisney etsy Hercules outfit (cuz I knew I couldn’t get him to wear an actual toga) to be matchy matchy with me for Oogie Boogie. Will he wear it?

  • Almost Went the Distance - Running Shirt only
  • We Went the Distance! - Running Shirt and matching running shorts to create the full toga effect
  • This Pair Didn’t Go the Distance - a different outfit entirely

No I’ve done one and tbh it’s not really for me. Way too crowded. It’s the only the race I’ve ever run where the sides of my legs hurt from all the dodging left and right. At the time I didn’t do Galloway and this is a Galloway sponsored event. Sooo what this means is that in a packed race peoples watches go off and they literally just stop inches in front of you so all the sudden you have to dodge left or right to avoid colliding into them when you’re a steady pacer like me. I spent a lot of time doing this very nerve wracking dodging or running a steep sideways grassy incline, also not fun, to take a break from the frogger challenges. For 13.1 miles. I doubt I’ll ever do it again tbh. In a normal race the first 1 mile or so you’re doing this dodging thing but then you find your pacers and some space. But in Disney it’s so packed it’s like this for the entire race unless you’re really fast and can get in the fast pace groups at the front I imagine.

The objective of the challenges (2 Course, Dopey, etc) is to finish. It’s not to finish first (unless you’re Brittany Charboneau). So pacing is the name of the game. That means a lot of starts and stops.

If you can get in corral A or B, you should be ok without dodging. The problems come starting corral D. That’s when they stop checking for your pace, and it’s all on the honor system. So everything from D to F becomes a nasty cluster  . They need to have only 1 corral be the “we’re not checking you” people. With 3 corrals, it jams the circuitry really quick.

I hadn’t done a race in the last year so I was in the free for all group and we literally started with the balloon ladies. Which was honestly really fun. Our start song was Journey Don’t Stop Believin’. But I just don’t do Galloway run/walk. I prefer to just run cuz I find that more meditative, lose yourself in a rhythm but I have done it with my then 12 year old son when he did a local running series with an 8k, 10 miler and three halves. I understand it saves injuries and doesn’t slow your time but I just don’t prefer it. So when you’re packed in like sardines and people go from a 10 min mile pace to walking in 1 second it’s not good for those keeping the 10 mile pace.

Traveling has begun. This blood orange IPA is a nice summer beer.

I never get over the weather here. It’s August and 74 and real feel is 74. Why don’t I live here again?

More the expensive but I’m trying to work it out in my head. Could I afford a 1 bedroom?

Given the 1800 sq foot homes near that beach club without a beach view are 6 mil I think nope. Sigh

I was lucky enough to live in an apartment right at the beach. It was as cool as it sounds!

Like owning a pool though, you don’t “go to the beach” or take advantage of it as often when it’s right in front of you.
