Facial recognition opt out

Does anyone know if you can opt out of facial recognition? I have Express Passes to Epic Universe but my wife does not want to to on Stardust Racers. I was hoping we could opt out of facial recognition and then I could use her barcode EP to ride SR a second time. At WDW we just swap wrist bands when she didn’t want to ride Tron. At $260 per EP, it seems a bit ridiculous that you can transfer within a family group.

I don’t know the answer, but I’m thinking you just go Mission Impossible.

The question of sharing Express Pass among people who each purchased it for themselves came up recently . . .

@DeepInTheHeartofTexas did you end up trying this? Do you think it would be possible with the current system? (Do they even use facial recognition for EP queue entrances?)

I do not condone sharing EP with someone who has not purchased it, but I think if two people have both purchased EP and one of them doesn’t want to use it for a particular ride, that seems much more reasonable.

But Epic XP is one ride per attraction only. So it seems fine to me to let someone else use your entitlement to your one ride if you don’t want it.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you in theory, but in the other thread I mentioned that based on my research, XP is advertised as “non-transferrable” and people who have given their XP to someone else have faced consequences (e.g., annual pass revoked, etc.). Sharing with someone who also purchased XP seems more of a gray area to me.

Thanks. Privacy policy indicates facial recognition is optional and you can opt out.

At first glance I thought your profile pic was Yogi Bear. On second glance it reminds me of one of those AI images with a hidden face / character.

We didn’t. I had originally thought I would maybe let my girls (almost 11 and just turned 9) go into a shop or something while DS12 and I rode something they didn’t want to ride but my son ended up getting sick and not being able to join us. Since it was just the girls, I either didn’t ride whatever they both didn’t want to ride, or they both came through the queue (thereby using their individually assigned XP) and DD9 waited in the family waiting area.

I really do not see an issue with allowing guests of the same party to use another’s XP. Experientially, however, we were unable to test it out to see if CMs would actually permit it. As you said, technically, per the rules and regulations of the XPs, it is not allowed.

All XP lanes in Epic while we were there utilized facial recognition to clear guests into the queue.

This seems to indicate @arguslives is right that an opt-out would be required if someone wanted to try this. (Personally I think it seems like a hassle.)

So, my plan is to say our family wants to opt out of facial recognition for XP upon Helios check in. Hopefully we can get physical XP tickets/cards and/or use the phone app. And then I will try to use my wife’s XP on Stardust Racers. I will report back. Not that interested in the questioning of my ethics here FWIW. Like I said, I am paying $1400 for 3 adults for 1 day of EU - including $780 for XPs. I have no problem whatsoever using my wife’s XP if she doesn’t think she will enjoy a ride.

May Helios shine his light (but not technology) upon your visage.

Not necessarily questioning your ethics personally, but just putting it on the record as my stance. Everyone will have to make their own decisions based on their own interpretation and comfort.

Good luck on your trip! :+1:t3:

I think there is a real distinction between unlimited XP and one-time XP. If you have unlimited XP and you let a friend or family member use it then clearly you are breaking the rules.

But if you have paid top dollar for a one-time XP and you do not wish to use it for one of the attractions you have paid top dollar for, I cannot see the harm to anyone in letting someone else take that ride.

It’s the difference between two people going to a buffet and sharing vs two people ordering a pizza and sharing.

I have shared my daughter’s Express Pass at HHN multiple times.

I have seen the screen the TMs view as you scan in. There is a section for your face to come up, but it has never worked. It’s a “blank” silhouette of a generic person with your name.

If the pass is eligible to enter it comes up Green. If not, it turns Red.

The color is all the TM cares about.

I speak from Ops experience. No TM wants to start an argument with a guest unless truly necessary. If it scans you go…:shark::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The same is true of LLs at WDW. I’ve used someone else’s MB to use their LL. A name comes up but as long as there is a valid LL they don’t care. (I mean, I guess my name could be Susan, and who dares ask in today’s modern world?)
