Can anyone tell me why the historical crowd calendar has no info for Epic, just “predicted”?
Doesn’t the historic calendar look back on the same date over the years? Epic hasn’t been open a year.
I don’t have access to it. But I remember wanting to see what previous days were like. I think that is maybe what they are referring to. In other crowd calendars you can see the days leading up to today. The ‘what we saw’ part.
I’m guessing they want at least 12 months of wait time data before they assign any date with an “actual crowd level”. You typically need data from the lowest crowd days and the highest to set those high and low levels before assigning all the other days.
It shows daily numbers. For the previous days it just has “?”.
I agree but would Epic also have to be fully open (no restrictions) to have real crowd levels? They are still capping attendance.
Yeah, I thought about that too. But they should get better ride efficiency/less downtime, before they do allow more guests in.
Here’s what it looks like:
I wonder if after TPs testing of the plans and finding that Universal’s posted times were so much lower than actual times on some attractions, combined with limited actuals, if it is impossible to measure what the day to day ended up?
@mnaccmroth1 I just came across this:
I respect this. But, my honest question is, how can there be predictions for the future, but an inability to categorize the information from the past? Should I assume the future numbers are inaccurate? Is the system just not able to record the previous numbers? I don’t really get it.
That would be my takeaway. Crazy.
Yes.
They need to put numbers in there cuz that’s what you pay for. ![]()
I would say that the future predictions are just a guess, except to the extent that they forecast Epic will be crowded on a week when all the parks are doomed to be crowded.
If you want to know what wait times at Epic’s rides, or the other parks’ rides, were for a given past day, you can pull up that information by clicking “see all details” under the date and scrolling down to the Wait Times and Offline Percentages section.
Back to OP question then, what prevents there from being an actual number assigned to the crowd calendar for the day? We have a number assigned to future dates that is hopefully based on predictions. But we have actual statistics for previous dates and no number assigned.
That’s a choice made by TP management. They don’t want to assign a number to past dates due to insufficient data. Note that I am not saying they lack any data, just not “enough’“ in their opinion. Using that reasoning, assigning numbers for forecasts when there are no standards for what the numbers mean should not be happening. But they want to assign numbers in the crowd calendar forecasts for what they’re worth. So they do so. I think it’s inconsistent, but I can understand that there are more people who want to see a forecast that there are people who want to know what happened in the past.
Agreed. Most people are not nearly as interested as I have been in Epic wait times. I think the advantage of knowing what a previous day was rated is to a) learn about the accuracy of predictions b) get a better feel for what the predicted number means. What I’ve seen is what I consider very low numbers for Epic, but that is based on my experiences at other parks. What these numbers at Epic tell me so far is that they believe it can get way worse than what we are currently seeing. But, it’s hard to imagine without knowing what number they assigned to a day where I have all of the information.
I will just say after almost 30 years of relying on the Unofficial Guide I find this all very disappointing.
I am wondering off anyone use the “contact us” link on the website and asked the data people at Touring Plans?
