Epcot- FEA RD - what am I doing wrong here?

Liners, help me out here. I’m running some scenarios with rope dropping Frozen. I have ETPE selected (8:30 start) as well as “Rope Drop Mode” walking at a fast pace from Main Entrance. Date is June 20th with a CL of 4.

Why is my arrival time to Frozen 8:43 with a 25 minute wait? Any other ride in rope drop mode lets me start my TP at 8:30. Is this normal? A glitch? Is something changing with FEA rope drop or ETPE access? Or does TP just not understand how fast I walk? :joy:

Screenshot of my plan below and dammit I don’t want to wait 25 mins!

What did you set your walking speed to?

Oh. You said fast. Sorry. Missed it at first.

Fast

I haven’t rope dropped main gate in a long time, but if you rope drop IG and go to Remy, the CMs slow walk you to the ride…so it doesn’t matter how fast you are, everyone is still arriving at their pace. Perhaps Frozen is similar? Usually when we rope drop, we do Frozen second and arrive right at about 9 am, and wait about 25 minutes.

Ok update there may be a glitch. I trialed rope dropping TT then heading to FEA. Notice the “free time”, followed by 9:00am start for FEA. The system does not seem to be allowing FEA during ETPE.

Seems like a glitch to me. I’ve rope dropped FEA from both the main entrance and from IG and it’s always been part of ETPH. If you are heading straight to FEA and are walking briskly, your wait should be shorter than 25 min.

It IS quite a hike from both front of the park and IG though, so it may not be a great option for slow walkers - a lot of people would pass you on the walk there.

From the front of the park, the last time I rope dropped FEA (Oct 24), we were held in the middle of the park (not far from the Walt statue), a bit ahead of the booths overlooking World Showcase - and then walked straight up towards the lagoon before heading left towards Mexico and Norway. IG folks will usually be held at a rope near Canada. The fast walkers of both groups will usually merge at some point along the lagoon.

Maybe someone with more recent experience can confirm.

There is something way out of wack here:

  1. On you second example (step 1 = Test Track; step 2 = Frozen) your Arrival Time at Test Track is equal to Park Open (8;30), which is impossible because there is always a travel time to get from the configured entrance to the attraction. So the Arrival has to be later than 8:30.
  2. In my quick test I am getting a later arrival and longer wait if I enable Rope Drop mode. Which is again incorrect, and I get the same arrival and wait as you first example.

For starters do the following:

  • It looks like you are using one of the apps. Force a version update regardless of what you may see reported.
  • Temporarily disable Rope Drop mode
  • Do an evaluation (not an optimize)
  • Post a link to a shared copy of the plan for review

Here is what I get with that configuration for Feb 28th: Custom Touring Plan: EP Test 2/28

Seven minutes to walk from the tapstile to the attraction and 14 min wait in line. Why the 14 min wait? Because without Rope Drop turned on the Scheduler thinks you will arrive in the middle of the pack (you didn’t arrive very early, position yourself well while waiting for the park to open, and walk aggressively once you are allowed to head to your first attraction … I’ll leave the definition of aggressive up to you)

Ooh, that’s interesting. I don’t rope drop, so I’m only going off what I’ve read, but as @NTEI said:

Is it possible that Rope Drop mode is trying to account for not actually having to walk from the tapstiles at 8:30am? Although based on feedback about not being able to predict single rider mode etc., I’d wonder if this would fall into the same not very predictable category?

It could be doing that, however the arrival time should be even earlier when Rope Drop is turned on not later than what is calculated without Rope Drop turned on

I used a similar plan for the Magic Kingdom and see the following:

  • If I do not use Early Entry the travel time to Step 1 (Haunted Mansion) is 10 min
  • If I use Early Entry the travel time to Step 1 (Haunted Mansion) is 5 min

So for MK (and other parks) the Scheduler accounts for a shorter walk when using Early Entry.

If I enable Rope Drop mode the travel time to Step 1 (Haunted Mansion) is zero and the Arrival Time is equal to the Early Entry time. Since this is the behavior the OP sees in their second example there must be a bug when Frozen is the first step. Its not denying Early Entry but also not using a zero travel time.

I’m actually just on safari on my iPhone. But I turned off rope drop mode and now I got the same times as you did which is much more what I would expect. I agree- I would not expect to be on the ride right at 8:30, but 8:43 with a 25 minute wait also did not add up. Thanks for the help and suggestions
