I normally avoid the early entry parks when we stay on site but wondering how much we could accomplish if we were at MK for that 8-9am time. Has anyone done it during summer? Are the waits trully pleasant for that first hour and what is open?
Do I have to have checked into my on site hotel and have a room key?

I’m a firm believer of EMH, FP and good plan. Be back at pool by early PM
I actually like going to EMH. You can typically do 2 - 3 rides in that hour. Then you can get in another 3 - 4 by lunch when the crowds ramp up. You can then go back to the hotel for a break or hop to another park.
What rides are open varies by park, but they typically have a whole Land or two available. At MK, for example, the rides in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are open.
I’m 80% sure, but not totally positive, you shouldn’t need to go to your hotel or check in before going into the parks.
