Early entry ethics

Have you or would you ever use an expirered resort room key card to gain early access to IOA?

We’re taking an impromptu day trip tomorrow morning, and its been suggested (not by me) that we simply flash our old room keys

I’ve never had crewmembers actually scan my key card in the past, just a quick visual confirmation

Should i do it? Time sensitive

I’m not 100% certain but am remembering that they did scan it this summer at IOA. Could be misremembering tho.
Definitely needed to have our whole group together and then….did they scan???

I wouldn’t. It’s unethical and I’d be scared of getting caught.

Last time we were there they scanned them. Can’t say if that is always the case.

No I would not do this - it’s wrong.

Yes! No one, in ALL my years of going, has ever looked at my hotel key at all. EVER!

Your AP will get you into the park just fine even if it doesn’t come with EPA - which mine doesn’t and I go to EPA every time.

In the worst case - Which will never happen anyway …

You “play dumb” and say you mixed up your keys… “Oh no! My key from our last trip was still in my lanyard!! I may have left our current key back in the room!!”

The ONLY time any one will ever scan your hotel key is if you are trying to use it for Express Pass access

Definitely not the case… I left my key in the room on accident, and thought my AP would be fine, but they denied it until I showed my hotel confirmation email. Even then they were going to make me go all the way back to the room until I pointed out that there’s no way I’d get all the way there and back before EPA was over.

I guess I just look more trustworthy than I am!:rofl::shark::shark:

No one ever gives me a second glance!

Genuinely curious… How did this interaction start? Did a TM approach you for proof to be at EPA? Did you ask them since you forgot your hotel key? Did it happen while waiting at the taps for entry or after entering but on the way to attractions??

I’ve never been asked for EPA proof or approached in any way. (Other than “flashing” my hotel key as I walked by without pausing.)

When the RD “herd” begins moving it’s a wave of people that I don’t know how TMs would even try to slow down to examine if a hotel key was from today or two years ago…

I don’t doubt it happened to you. I’m just wondering if it was a “random” inquiry, a new procedure or if you engaged them first in a way that almost denied your entry. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

They had everyone showing their room key to get past the barriers into Seuss island like usual. They were not looking closely at the key cards… I doubt they would have noticed an incorrect date but they definitely stopped anyone without a key.

Ok… this makes sense then! I’ve seen them stopping people without a hotel key before.
