I’ve done this too, (picked up a waitlist on my own) so I am contradicting myself!
Like the earlier change, I’ve seen people talking about the numbers and how this doesn’t change the basic math. But before, the dice were loaded a bit, so the roll always helped certain people. So I disagree with the pure math peoole and think this will make it easier, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy.
I hadn’t even thought of all of those times I’ve tried to get a reservation and had to pick them up one day at a time because of walkers. Love that this will help with that (though I have seen people doing that at 7 months too).
I hope they come up with a work around for people booking longer stays.
yes, this b/c I read far too many complaints about DVC owners not being able to get reservations at their home resorts 11 months out.
Tom Bricker seems to think that a follow-on change to this policy may be to allow initial bookings of up to 10 days.
To me, as a WL owner, the most frustrating thing has been to see availability at 7:00 am but see it disappear at 7:30. If this stops that, and gives me just a chance, I will be happy.
I have no idea why he thinks walking is connectedstrong text to commercial renting.
And whydoes he think it would be 10 days? I assume he links it to ADRs. As always a lot of fluff and he’s speculating. There’s no reason to think they’ll change the length we can book for or they’d have changed it with these changes.
Maybe with some push-back.
You bring up so many good points. I am wondering if Disney has considered how in the long run this could impact them. If owners from outside of the US find they cannot get their usual 2 week or longer stays, will those owners start looking at other Orlando options? @Nicky_S could owners that travel like you decide to sell there points and buy two resale contracts? Trying to fix one issue, may create multiple other issues.
I agree I don’t think this will really impact commercial rentals at all.
That disappearing availability has always been wild to me. I feel like this has to stop that?
I really hope so
I’m just excited I may actually have a chance at getting a BWV resort view studio at 11 months now. They are often gone at 11 months +1-2 days during busy times because of the walkers, or if it does show as available it will disappear somehow between 7:30-7:45 before booking even opens, like you said
When does the policy start? I took a look at booking AKL Jambo Kilimanjaro Club just now which is clearly a walking problem 11 months out and pattern of the first booking day not being available is still there.
I would love it if the end of walking enabled me to occasionally get the Club room. I would not do it all the time – too many points and I love my Savanna view Arusha DVC rooms too much. But the one time I managed to by happenstance get a room for 2 nights it was nice.
So I just took a look and it looks like that walking pattern is still there.
I wonder if it is only new bookings?
I’ve seen comments elsewhere of people saying it won’t stop walking - now they are saying they will just book the week leading up to the desired stay including the first night and then modifying when it enters the desired window beyond the original check out date.
I’m not sure if that will work in theory with how the site is set up, but I hope not the case. Feels like that would give more of an advantage to resellers who have extra points to spare and tie up trying to get an edge on the system and still put most owners just trying to book at 11 months in the same predicament.
Wait, I don’t see how this would be an advantage?
Say I book Dec 1-7 which is my allowed 7 nights. Check out is the 8th. So I can’t modify this until the 8th is within 11 months which is the same time anyone wanting to actually book the 8th also can book? Are people thinking that modifying has a jump on new bookings somehow?
My understanding of the rationale I saw was that they would include the actual check in date so that they would have a day or two advantage over everyone else, or book for desired weekends/etc by having the desired check in date at the end of their week reservation, as well as trying to cancel/rebook at odd times to maximize the chances of picking up the same room you dropped.
Definitely a positive change and heading in the right direction to protect owners, but I guess there will always be ways around to try to get an advantage - not mad at the people for trying or even losing a room to other owners trying for the same thing, as I know that is what we do a lot here to try to maximize our trips. I just hate seeing the posts from for profit renters of dedicated rentals that I know I tried for at 11 months and never even had a chance to pick up.
Yes, but if, say the new rule started today the walking would not be possible starting today. We should start no longer seeing that that shaded out dreaded gray Not Available the 1-and-2 days up front and then multiple days after that Happy Blue Available, but can’t book them because they are beyond the 11 month start date so while theoretically available because they are in the 7 day allowed booking you can’t get them without the first days(s). That’s how walking blocks everyone out on the 11 month opening day. I’m sure you’ve seen the pattern since you are a WL/CC owner too.
It may take a week to see that pattern to go away, but it’s there this morning. I took a look at AKL-J studio KClub — here is a screen shot
Wouldn’t that only be true if your actual stay is less than 7 days?
Yes, I think for shorter trips only I would think (but I guess this could have been done all along, not necessarily with the new rules) or then canceling and rebooking at odd times for longer trips to try to pick up your old reservation with extending it.
This is my least favorite thing to see.
I guess we will have a better idea after a week or two if it makes a difference, like you said.
This is exactly what walking looks like. As a reservation is walked, today will reappear the the 1st day of the new check in date disappears.
